Many popular websites and online games, like Roblox and Fortnite, are currently down today, October 20th.
Okay, so it looks like the problems are coming from Amazon Web Services, or AWS. It’s a huge cloud platform that a lot of companies rely on – even banks! Apparently, something’s going on over there that’s causing issues for everyone.
Because so many online services rely on Amazon Web Services (AWS), problems with AWS can cause widespread internet disruptions, affecting things like online games.
Many players are currently experiencing difficulties logging in to popular games like Fortnite, Roblox, Clash Royale, and Palworld.
AWS has found a likely cause for the problem and is actively working on a solution, according to their latest update on the AWS Health Status page.
Okay, so I was getting a lot of errors with DynamoDB in the US-East-1 region, and it looks like Amazon finally figured out what was going on. Apparently, it was a problem with how the game (or, you know, *my* application) was finding the DynamoDB servers. They said it’s a DNS resolution issue, which basically means it couldn’t properly connect to the right address for the DynamoDB API in that region.
We’re taking several different approaches at the same time to speed up the recovery process. This problem is also impacting other AWS services in the US-East-1 Region.
Shortly after, AWS announced they were seeing clear improvements, suggesting services should be back to normal soon.
