Rock Band 4, Harmonix’s legendary musical rhythm game, is soon to become unavailable.
The development team announced on their Discord server and the game’s subreddit that the game will be removed from digital stores – including the PS Store – on October 5th, 2025. This is happening because the licences for the game’s original music are set to expire.
Hi everyone, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Rock Band 4 will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Community Manager Kyle Winn shares, “What a journey it’s been!” However, this milestone also means a significant change – the licenses for the original soundtrack are running out. As a result, Rock Band 4 will no longer be available for purchase on the digital stores for PlayStation and Xbox.
Winn assures players who already own the game that they will continue to be able to download and play it without any issues. “This also applies to Downloadable Content (DLC) – songs will be removed after reaching the 10-year mark, but all content you’ve purchased will stay in your library,” he explains.
The main game and all downloadable content (DLC) tracks will eventually be removed from sale once they’ve been available for 10 years. But don’t worry – if you already own them, or buy them before that 10-year mark, you’ll still be able to access them. They won’t be taken away.
It appears that online play will remain functional.
Rock Band 4 came out for the PS4 on October 6th, 2015, and has received a huge amount of downloadable content (DLC) ever since. New songs were only added until January 2024, at which point Harmonix began concentrating on Fortnite Festival.
That’s a truly remarkable achievement – it’s the game that lasted the longest from the wave of plastic instrument games, which first started with Harmonix’s Guitar Hero on the PS2.
The core game, which already includes the Rivals expansion, currently costs $9.99 or £7.99. So, if you don’t have it yet but want to play in the future, it’s quite affordable-but you only have a limited time to purchase it before it’s removed from sale.
