Enthusiasts of Max Payne received some positive news recently about the development of the anticipated remakes for the first and second games in the series. As per Remedy Entertainment’s interim financial report for the second half of 2025, which is the studio responsible for creating Max Payne, progress on the remakes has been progressing favorably. Although no specific launch date has been disclosed yet, it’s comforting to learn that, a few years after their initial announcement, the remakes continue to receive dedicated attention in production.
According to the financial report, the company has been working closely with Rockstar Games, and they anticipate that the ongoing projects will soon move into the subsequent stage of manufacturing.
According to a recent financial report by Remedy Entertainment, the remake of Max Payne 1 and 2 is still in active development and making steady progress. In the last quarter, the team has built upon their earlier momentum, and their collaboration with Rockstar Games remains fruitful and aligned as they approach the next significant stage of the project.
In 2022, news about the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 became public knowledge, as it was revealed that Remedy Entertainment had formed a collaboration and received financial backing from Rockstar Games to breathe new life into these projects.
reminiscing about their cherished connection with the game, Remedy’s CEO, Tero Virtala, shared that Max Payne has been a beloved title among them and their fans globally. He expressed great enthusiasm about collaborating with Rockstar Games again, hoping to revive the narrative, action, and ambiance of the initial Max Payne series for players in innovative ways.
Some supporters found the news unexpected yet thrilling, given the substantial financial support from Rockstar for the venture, which Remedy Entertainment characterizes as being in keeping with the budget of a standard Remedy AAA-level game production.

During that period, the financing was considered a substantial advantage for Remedy Entertainment, as they had encountered financial hardships over the past few years. However, even after releasing “Alan Wake 2” in 2023, which sold close to 2 million copies, Remedy Entertainment struggled to turn a profit for more than a year following its release. In November, Remedy PR Director Thomas Puha expressed his discontent towards X regarding the lack of profitability, stating that it was due to an excess budget and challenges in the gaming industry.
According to Puha’s statement, “The sales of Alan Wake 2 have surpassed 1.8 million units, which is roughly in line with our initial expectations. Despite the higher-than-expected budget (a common occurrence in gaming), we haven’t turned a profit yet and are not entirely satisfied with this situation. Considering the challenging market conditions and fierce competition, we’ve achieved impressive sales figures and have not significantly reduced prices as of yet.
According to their mid-year 2025 report, Remedy saw a significant jump in revenue, amounting to a 43.4% rise from the start of the year up until June. However, it’s worth noting that the company’s operating profit, relative to its total revenue, dropped by 8.4% during this period.
It’s reassuring to hear that Rockstar Games continues to collaborate closely with Remedy Entertainment for the remake of Max Payne, and that the production is progressing as planned. Fans can look forward to receiving a specific release date for the project in the near future.
