For the past couple of years, there have been rumors about a version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but nothing has materialized. This has led some fans to believe a next-gen version won’t happen, especially with Rockstar Games fully focused on GTA 6 and trying to avoid further delays. However, a new report suggests that the PS5 and Xbox Series X ports of RDR2 are actually in development.
YouTuber Reece Reilly, who often shares Nintendo news (but not always), claims to have spoken with eight developers who worked on the next-generation version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Based on these conversations, he’s confident a next-gen version will eventually be released.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Is Still Happening
According to a YouTuber, they’re certain at least eight developers who worked on the next-generation version of Red Dead Redemption 2 exist. However, Rockstar Games ultimately makes its own decisions about when to release games.
The commenter added, “It’s possible that changes to the development schedule for GTA 6 affected the release dates of other games – it’s hard to say for sure. What I do know is that developers have been working on it, and it will eventually be released.”
This update doesn’t offer much specific information, but it should relieve some worries that it had been canceled or was just a rumor. It’s possible the update was briefly put on hold, and that seems likely.
Keep in mind that everything mentioned is currently unconfirmed. Even if the information is correct, plans can always change. A next-generation update for Red Dead Redemption 2 might be in development, but there’s no assurance it will ever be released, or even come out anytime soon. Game development is unpredictable, particularly for projects that haven’t been officially announced. Rockstar Games hasn’t made any statement about this or any previous rumors regarding an RDR2 next-gen update, but we’ll be sure to update this story if that changes.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! Please leave a comment or join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum. If Rockstar Games releases Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X, would you replay it?
