Employees at Rockstar Games, the company behind the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, are reportedly frustrated due to internal issues. Creating a game as large as GTA 6 requires significant resources, time, and skilled workers. The video game industry often struggles with providing fair wages and healthy work environments, particularly as projects near completion when developers frequently face long hours and tight deadlines. This has led some developers to organize unions and advocate for improved conditions. Fortunately, speaking up about these issues is starting to make a difference, with many companies now working to address concerns and reduce excessive overtime.
Rockstar Games has often faced criticism regarding its work environment. Back in 2010, families of employees at Rockstar San Diego shared concerns about increasingly difficult conditions during the making of Red Dead Redemption, including regular 12-hour days and weekend work. Similar issues with intense crunch time were reported during the development of both Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. While things seemed to improve after Red Dead Redemption 2 launched, employees were still anxious about potential overwork as development on GTA 6 neared its final stages.
Rockstar Games Employee Claims Morale Is Reportedly “At Rock Bottom”

Last week, Rockstar Games fired dozens of employees, stating they were leaking secret company information. However, those fired say they were actually trying to organize a union, and believe the firings were an attempt to stop them. Now, a current Rockstar employee, speaking anonymously, has shared concerns from within the studio on the GTA Forums.
An employee, whose identity has been confirmed by moderators on the GTA Forums, says Rockstar unexpectedly fired several people without warning. According to this employee, HR didn’t offer any proof of wrongdoing, and they were unaware of any leaks happening on Discord. They believe the firings were a deliberate attempt to discourage unionization, and the remaining employees are now fearful and demoralized.
An employee shared that those still working are living in fear. They’re afraid to speak freely, even during breaks, worrying about losing their jobs. They avoid contact with protesting colleagues, fearing consequences. The atmosphere in the studio is extremely low, and instead of feeling optimistic about the future, employees feel discouraged and have lost trust in the company and each other.
This news follows the announcement that GTA 6 has been pushed back to November 2026, six months later than the originally planned May 2026 release. Some speculate this delay is intended to reduce intense work periods for developers, though long hours are common in the industry. An anonymous employee stated that increasing pressure and low wages are key concerns they aim to discuss with Rockstar management as they form a union.
Rockstar Games has many studios and employees around the world, making it hard to know how many people are affected by this situation. Because the issue has already sparked protests, it’s likely we’ll continue to hear more about it in the future.
