Xbox and Asus have teamed up to introduce a new feature for the ROG Ally and Ally X handheld gaming PCs. Called Default Game Profiles, this feature lets players automatically apply optimized performance settings to each game. Xbox says this will reduce the need for manual graphics adjustments, letting players jump into games faster and enjoy a smoother experience.
The Default Game Profiles feature offers pre-configured settings tailored for each game. These settings can be easily applied both within the game and to your system through the Command Center. However, this feature is only active when your ROG Xbox Ally or Xbox Ally X is running on battery power – it won’t work if the device is plugged in.
With this feature turned on, the system aims for a smooth gaming experience. If a game isn’t running fast enough, it temporarily increases the system’s power to reach the desired speed, which uses more battery. Conversely, if a game is running too fast, it reduces power to maintain a consistent speed and conserve battery life.
Default Game Profiles now works with 40 games, though a complete list isn’t published. Some of the games that will support it include Gears of War: Reloaded, Fortnite, and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Xbox has confirmed 16 games that are using the feature, and you can find that list below. This feature works with games from all publishers, but so far, most of the confirmed titles are published by Xbox Game Studios.
This update also includes several enhancements for the ROG Ally and Ally X. You’ll notice faster gamepad response after signing in, a quicker loading game library, and better performance on the Cloud Gaming page. We’ve added a new filter to the Game Gallery that lets you sort games based on how well they run, plus a number of bug fixes and overall stability improvements.
Xbox is listening to player feedback and planning improvements for its devices through future updates. These updates will focus on things like making the consoles more reliable when turning on and off, and giving users more control over how they format their microSD cards. Next year, the ROG Xbox Ally X will get an update that adds AI-powered features, such as automatic image sharpening and the ability to automatically create highlight reels of gameplay.
