Fans were thrilled to get a first look at a sequel to Alien: Isolation during Summer Game Fest. The original game is a highly regarded survival horror title, making the teaser a particularly exciting reveal.
Beyond the new trailer, SEGA and Creative Assembly recently let some journalists play an early version of Alien: Isolation 2.
Most reviews agree the new game feels very similar to the first one, and that’s a positive thing considering how great the original horror adventure was.
Early looks at the game focus on its opening section, where you play as Blake. He’s sent to the planet LV-921 to locate a lab that was ejected from the Sevastopol station.
The next game will feature both outdoor and indoor areas, moving the action beyond the limited space of the original spaceship.
Once you begin the game’s introduction, you’ll find yourself in the lab, and that’s when the classic gameplay experience starts. Early looks at the game highlight significantly better graphics, including both the surroundings and the alien creature.
The demo clearly shows the team is still excellent at building suspense during the escape, relying solely on a flashlight to guide you through the darkness.
Early impressions of Alien: Isolation 2 suggest it’s staying true to the gameplay that made the first game so popular. However, this was based on only the first half-hour of the game, leaving room for the developers at Creative Assembly to introduce new ideas and expand the experience in the complete version.
The game still doesn’t have a release date, and it feels like it’s a bit off, but a playable version suggests it might be closer than we think. We’ll need to wait and find out, but it sounds like those who enjoyed the original game will likely be pleased with the sequel when it finally arrives.
IGN: “There really is nothing else like Alien: Isolation”
Honestly, I wasn’t surprised how much this demo felt like the original Alien: Isolation. It’s made by a lot of the same team, and the director is the same person! They even designed this bit as a direct link to the first game, which was smart. It definitely makes me feel good knowing the series is in capable hands. Now I’m just super excited to see what they do with the full sequel and how they’re going to expand on everything that made the first game so great.
Kotaku: “The sequel will give you what you’ve been looking for”
I got to play a bit of Alien: Isolation 2, and wow, it’s terrifying! It’s the kind of horror game that keeps you on edge constantly. You can hide, but nothing feels truly safe because the alien is always hunting. It’s a lot of trying things and failing, and honestly, the alien has all the advantage. You can’t kill it, and it doesn’t need much – even a tiny hint of your presence – to come after you!
VGC: “This is exactly the sequel that fans imagined”
Early impressions of Alien Isolation 2 suggest it feels remarkably like the original – and that’s probably a good thing! While the game will likely evolve as we progress, this initial section successfully captures the atmosphere and terrifying horror of the first game, enhanced by updated graphics and technology.
