Capcom is planning a new Dead Rising game set in Hollywood, according to a report from the gaming news site MP1st, which has a good track record with accurate information.
According to the website, the game – originally known as ‘Rec’ during development – has been in the works since 2023. It will continue the story of Frank West, picking up after the events of the first game.
This is important because the game was recently updated for the PlayStation 5, making it a great way for new players to experience it.
The game is set on a Hollywood movie lot, which promises a lot of variety since a small space can easily become many different environments and scenes.
According to reports, West will face off against a mentally unstable movie director obsessed with making a flawless film. The film set will also include a number of actors and extras who manage to survive.
The next game will likely keep the same gameplay style as before – a bit like a roguelike – which isn’t surprising given how popular that type of game is right now.
When Dead Rising first came out on the Xbox 360 in 2006, its challenging time limits and focus on repeating actions weren’t popular with all players. However, after games like Hades and Returnal, many people now enjoy this style of gameplay.
MP1st hasn’t revealed when the game might be released, but believes it’s likely still a ways off. This is understandable, as Capcom already has several projects planned, including Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, and there are also whispers of more remakes and remastered titles coming later.
This game could potentially be for the PlayStation 6, but we expect Capcom will also release it on the PlayStation 5, making it available on both current and next-generation consoles.
