Rumour: Dead Space Is ‘On Ice’, Could Be Sold Off to Help Cover EA’s Acquisition Debt

Despite the success of the Dead Space remake in 2023 – earning praise from critics and selling well – publisher Electronic Arts currently doesn’t intend to create another game in the series.

Even more surprisingly, there are rumors the company might sell its horror game rights to help pay off debts that will likely arise after Microsoft completes its purchase next year.

According to sources inside the publisher who spoke to Insider Gaming, there’s hope that Electronic Arts will sell the Dead Space franchise to another company.

It seems Dead Space might be one of several games the company is considering licensing out to other developers. The game is currently paused, which implies the publisher doesn’t plan to make new installments themselves.

Electronic Arts (EA) is expected to be acquired by a group of investors led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), along with Silver Lake and Affinity Partners. Reports indicate that the PIF will hold a controlling stake, owning approximately 93.4% of EA.

The group buying the company will pay $55 billion, but most of that money will be borrowed, adding about $20 billion in debt to EA. This means we can expect significant cost-cutting measures, including sales of assets, store closures, and job losses, over the next few years.

People, including those at EA, are now considering which of its properties the new owners might want to sell. The Dead Space franchise is one possibility.
