According to reports, it appears that Virtuos, known for their work on Oblivion Remastered and the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta, is undergoing a significant reduction in staff, affecting approximately 300 employees.
As reported by French journalist Gauthier Andres, it has been announced that approximately 7% of Virtuos’ employees are going to be dismissed.
You might be wondering now, “Just how large is Virtuos?” However, what most people don’t know is that Virtuos is a truly vast outsourcing firm, boasting offices in various parts of the globe. Over the years, it has been involved in numerous projects as an external contractor.
They manage to launch games such as Oblivion Remastered and continue working on Metal Gear Solid Delta and Cyberpunk 2077 updates at the same time. This is made possible by having a workforce of approximately 4,000 employees, distributed worldwide.
It seems that even though Oblivion Remastered appeared to be commercially successful, these layoffs might still occur because Andres suggests Virtuos may not have negotiated any bonuses tied to sales. Instead, the company could have viewed the remaster (which is essentially a remake) as a demonstration of its capabilities.
It seems like there might have been an error in judgment, doesn’t it? I’ve heard that employees at Virtuos’ Lyon studio are planning to demonstrate against the job losses. Yet, the company themselves refer to these redundancies as a “reorganization” (as reported by Eurogamer). As a fan, I can only hope for a favorable resolution to this situation.
It’s quite possible that this tale will persist for some time, so rest assured, we’ll continue to provide updates as they come.
How do you interpret this situation? Let’s discuss what lies ahead for such a large corporation in the comment area beneath.
