Rumour: Ubisoft Is Still Gunning for Live Service Success with New Multiplayer Shooter

Ubisoft just can’t help but chase that pot of gold at the end of the live service rainbow.

Recent leaks suggest the publisher is continuing development on a new sci-fi multiplayer shooter, a project first revealed earlier this year.

The game, currently known as Project Scout, is a large, competitive title being built using Unreal Engine 5.

Earlier reports suggested this game would be similar to Apex Legends, specifically a ‘battle royale’ style game, but recent information doesn’t confirm that genre.

It’s understandable to be skeptical, given Ubisoft’s track record with games that continuously update after release.

The company’s last try at building a popular ongoing game was XDefiant, which unfortunately failed. It was cancelled just over a year after it first came out, and people were already predicting its demise only a few months after launch.

Before that, there was Hyper Scape, but it didn’t last long and is likely already forgotten – and that’s perfectly understandable.

The live service game market is very competitive, but Ubisoft has seen success with these types of games before. This likely makes them willing to continue investing in new games like Project Scout.

Given its current state, it’s hard to imagine the company creating another hit game like Rainbow Six: Siege or For Honor.

Project Scout has been in development for at least two years, so we likely won’t have to wait much longer for an official announcement.

What do you think about the direction Ubisoft is heading in these days? And, considering what’s been revealed, do you think their new project, Scout, has potential? Feel free to share your honest opinions in the comments!
