
Dragon Quest 7 is, without question, one of the greatest RPGs on the PS1.
Regrettably, Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past wasn’t launched in Europe until as late as 2016, and it was the exceptional remake for the Nintendo 3DS that did so.
Now there’s chatter of a new version being prepared for modern hardware, including the PS5.
1st source states they’ve come across “confidential files” that hint towards a future relaunch, and it seems like this project is expected to be unveiled within the upcoming twelve months or so.
Indeed, it seems quite logical that Square Enix might consider re-releasing this timeless game on modern consoles. After all, they’ve already launched the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake last year, and the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is set to launch on October 30th.
The initial analysis suggests it might be a brand new take, but we find it hard to believe. Given the considerable work Square Enix invested in the mentioned 3DS edition, we think they could likely release an enhanced version of that instead, which should satisfy many fans.
Honestly speaking, we’re quite enthusiastic about the prospect of the vintage Dragon Quest games coming back into circulation. Even Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King, a timeless favorite that had a 3DS version in 2017, is on our wishlist for potential re-releases. If the rumors about Dragon Quest 7 are indeed true, we can only hope it will follow suit.
It seems like it’s going to be a long wait for Dragon Quest 12, after all…
