Run Away star reveals he was approached for Celebrity Traitors season 2 – but turned it down for surprising reason

James Nesbitt has said he was offered a spot on the next season of Celebrity Traitors, but he decided not to join the show.

The actor, known for his detective roles, revealed he turned down an offer to appear in season two because he felt intimidated by the project.

On The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Nesbitt explained that when he was offered the opportunity – while already working at the BBC – he immediately thought it ‘sounded amazing’.

I talked to my agent, but he advised against it. I was just worried about what I could do next – the original was just so good.

I was completely hooked on The Celebrity Traitors last year – it was such a fantastic show! The BBC clearly knew it was a hit too, because they announced a new series would be back in 2026 almost immediately after the last one finished. I’m already counting down the days!

Kalpna Patel-Knight, BBC Head of Entertainment, announced the show’s renewal, praising Studio Lambert for creating “The Celebrity Traitors,” which has become a national favorite. She highlighted its success in bringing large audiences together with its exciting and unpredictable plot twists.

The castle will reopen in 2026, inviting a new group of celebrities to compete. Expect plenty of charm, strategy, and suspense as they battle to be the last one standing in series two – it’s set to be just as captivating as the first!

With the return of Uncloaked and the recent announcement that The Traitors has boosted Scotland’s economy, there’s a lot to be happy about.

The series finale, where Alan Carr was revealed as the ultimate Traitor, drew an impressive 15 million viewers. It quickly became the most-watched series ever on demand, surpassing all previous records within the first seven days of its release.

Episode six was the most popular yet, reaching 15.2 million viewers within 28 days of its release. Overall, the series is averaging 14.8 million viewers per episode after 28 days, including 3.1 million viewers aged 16-34.

Alongside news of its renewal, a new report showed that the reality show The Traitors – across its UK, US, and celebrity versions – has contributed an estimated £21.8 million to Scotland’s economy since production began in 2022.

Fans can look forward to a new season of The Traitors on BBC One later this year. You can currently watch the first season on BBC iPlayer.
