The Netflix comedy “Running Point,” which draws inspiration from the co-owner and CEO of the LA Lakers, Jeannie Buss, offered a wealth of amusing moments during its first season.

Upon an unanticipated turn of events that made Kate Hudson the president of the LA Waves, as her brother relinquished his position, she encountered a towering amount of stress and resistance from her fellow siblings, the board, the athletes, and the broader sports fraternity.

But once she had her feet firmly under the table, there was no stopping her.

Mindy Kaling, one of the creators, shared with Tudum that she has a strong affection for crafting stories about determined women. These women could range from a 15-year-old girl residing in the Valley (similar to Never Have I Ever) to the leader of a basketball team.

We aimed to create characters’ experiences that resonate with viewers, allowing them to identify with the characters’ hardships and victories.

Without a prior release schedule to go on, it’s tricky to predict when it could return.

If it does get the green light, we wouldn’t expect season 2 to air until 2026 at least.

Who could return for a potential Running Point season 2?

The entire production centers around the character Isla Gordon, portrayed by Kate Hudson, thus it is reasonable to anticipate that she will reappear alongside these other characters:

  • Justin Theroux as Cam Gordon
  • Scott MacArthur Ness Gordon
  • Drew Tarver Sandy Gordon
  • Brenda Song as Ali Lee
  • Fabrizio Guido as Jackie Moreno

There’s also Toby Sandeman as Marcus Winfield and Uche Agada as Dyson Gibbs.

However, some doubts linger about Max Greenfield, the actor portraying Lev Levy, as well as Jay Ellis, the man behind the character Jay Brown (further details to follow).

Plus, Chet Hanks’s Travis Bugg is now in rehab, so it remains to be seen if he could be back.

What could happen in a potential Running Point season 2?

In the first season, several significant events unfolded, among which was the heartfelt kiss shared by Isla and Jay during the final episode.

Jay is planning on moving to Boston to be near his children, but there’s a chance he might stay due to a potential relationship with Isla. Will this decision help the team regain their winning form and make it back to the Western Conference Final?

After learning that her former fiance moved to Minnesota for work, Isla shared with Lev her desire to try rekindling their relationship. Heartbroken when he left her before, this decision came from a place of longing.

But that was before Jay kissed her…

Additionally, there seems to be more intrigue as Cam aims to regain the presidency, potentially leaving Isla in a marginalized position once more.

Moreover, Cam’s ambition for another term as president might push Isla back into obscurity again. This new development adds to the ongoing drama.
