‘Running Point’ Season 2 First Look, Release Date Revealed

Premiering on February 27, 2025, the Netflix series Running Point offers a dramatized take on the real-life story of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2010s. The show follows Isla Gordon, played by Kate Hudson, who unexpectedly finds herself in charge of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team, owned by the Fisher family. Despite feeling overlooked by her father and brother, Isla and her friends and coworkers work hard to turn the Waves into a championship-winning team, all while navigating plenty of humorous and dramatic situations.

Just one week after it started streaming on Netflix, Running Point has been renewed for another season! This means Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen – the show’s writers and executive producers – will continue to develop the story. Although the show hasn’t gotten much attention recently, it’s time to follow the Waves as they compete to become the top team in professional basketball.

Netflix has shared a first look at Season 2 of Running Point, announcing it will premiere on April 23, 2026.

Okay, so the new season seems like Isla Fisher’s character, Hudson, is no longer the newbie everyone’s watching – she’s dealing with the fallout from last season’s drama. But things get complicated because her brother, Cam (played by Justin Theroux), is secretly trying to get his old job back as the team’s leader! It sounds like Isla’s really juggling a lot – her personal life and running a basketball team. She can’t just keep doing things the way she did last year; she’s gotta change up her approach and find a way to lead her team to victory.

Kate Hudson returns to star in the show, joined by Drew Tarver, Brenda Song, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, and Justin Theroux. This season will also feature special appearances from well-known actors like Ray Romano, Max Greenfield, Jay Ellis, Jon Glazer, Rob Huebel, and Ken Marino. Hudson is also a producer on the show, working with veteran producer Howard Klein, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss (who inspired Hudson’s character), and Linda Rambis, a Lakers executive.

Isla Fisher’s character faces major challenges in Season 2 of Running Point. Not only is she dealing with a broken heart after her fiancé, Lev, leaves her following a move to Minnesota, but the arrival of her brother, Cam, at the end of the last season—and his attempt to regain control of the Waves—adds even more drama to her life.

Things get more complicated at the end of the season when Isla kisses Jay Brown, the Waves’ coach, after a tough loss to Portland. This connection will be a major focus at the start of Season 2, reminding viewers of the real-life romance between Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and former coach Phil Jackson.

The show is getting a boost with funny new actors like Ray Romano, Rob Huebel, and Ken Marino, and viewers are eager to find out how they’ll impact the story. With the series returning to Netflix in less than two months, get ready for lots of hilarious and exciting fictional basketball action that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Running Point Season 2 will begin streaming on Netflix on Apr. 23, 2026.
