Rupert Grint became famous worldwide when he first played Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. While he hasn’t worked as consistently as some of his co-stars, he’s had a good career since the end of the Harry Potter series. Even after appearing in other movies and TV shows since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 finished in 2011, most people still strongly associate him with the role of Ron Weasley. Now, with a new Harry Potter TV show coming out, a different actor, Alastair Stout, will be playing Ron, and Grint has spoken about the new cast member.
Rupert Grint recently told the BBC that he reached out to the new actor playing Ron Weasley after learning he’d been cast. He explained he wrote a letter, jokingly ‘passing the baton,’ wishing the actor well. Grint shared he had a great time playing Ron and hoped the new actor would feel the same. When asked if he’d ever reprise the role, especially after seeing Tom Felton return as Draco Malfoy on Broadway, Grint didn’t rule it out completely, saying ‘maybe in the future.’ However, he emphasized that he’s currently enjoying exploring roles outside of the Harry Potter universe.
What Rupert Grint’s Comments Mean For Ron Weasley’s Future

Rupert Grint is best known for playing Ron Weasley, even though it’s been over ten years since he last played the part. He’s become incredibly popular with fans of the Harry Potter series because of the role. While he didn’t seem eager to reprise the character anytime soon, he also didn’t say it would never happen, which will likely please many fans.
In a recent interview, Rupert Grint acknowledged he’ll likely always be known for playing Ron Weasley, and he’s perfectly happy with that. With the Harry Potter franchise still thriving – and the upcoming remake differing from the original films – it seems likely he’ll have opportunities to revisit the character. Tom Felton’s successful return as Draco Malfoy on stage is a good indication that other original cast members, including Grint, might receive similar offers, and he appears eager to consider them.
It’s wonderful to see Rupert Grint supporting Alastair Stout taking on the role of Ron. Fans will be happy to know Grint wishes Stout all the best, and that he hopes Stout has as good an experience with the character as he did. Despite hinting he might be open to returning to the role someday, it’s clear Ron Weasley’s story is in capable hands.
