Russell Crowe is currently playing roles that resemble the laid-back character Baloo from The Jungle Book, making the title of his next film particularly fitting. The movie, a crime thriller, reunites him with director Derrick Borte (who he worked with on Unhinged). However, the recently revealed movie poster, shared by Crowe himself, is surprisingly unexpected.
The film Unhinged, directed by Nathaniel Borte and starring Russell Crowe as a man consumed by road rage, was a strong movie that unfortunately didn’t get much attention when it came out during the pandemic. However, it’s recently been gaining popularity on streaming services. Now, Borte and Crowe are teaming up again for Bear Country, which will have a full release in theaters and is expected to be a big draw for audiences, even just based on the names involved.
Russell Crowe shared a brief description of his new film on social media, promising a mix of mystery, action, crime, and even moments of calm. He’ll be playing Manco Kapak, an Albanian nightclub owner who immigrated to the country and secretly washes drug money for a cartel. What happens next is unclear, but you can see Crowe’s announcement and the movie poster below.
What Is ‘Bear Country’ About?
Russell Crowe follows up his roles as the comedic Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder, a troubled priest in The Pope’s Exorcist, and Hermann Göring in Nuremberg with a new part: Manco, a seasoned nightclub owner. Manco has spent his life using the club to launder money and is looking forward to retirement with his girlfriend. But when the club is robbed, his attempt to get revenge goes wrong, leading to a violent and unpredictable series of events.
Russell Crowe isn’t the only big name in this suspenseful thriller, which features a strong supporting cast. Aaron Paul plays Jeff, a regular teacher who gets caught up in a web of corruption. Daniel Zovatto plays Rodriguez, a dangerous enforcer for a cartel, and Luke Evans is Joe Carver, an undercover federal agent stuck in the middle of the conflict. Nina Dobrev and Teresa Palmer round out the cast as Carrie and Sunny.
I’m really excited about Russell Crowe’s new film, Bear Country! They haven’t announced a release date yet, but he just shared the poster, so I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a trailer – and a date! – very soon.

Russell Crowe’s new film, Nuremberg, recently became available to rent or buy online and quickly rose to the top of the charts on many platforms. Following a decent run in theaters, the movie – a serious drama about the Nuremberg Trials – has been widely praised by viewers. It currently boasts a 95% audience score and a 75% score from critics.
Russell Crowe has consistently worked on new films lately, easily moving between different types of movies. He often comes across as a bit of a curmudgeon in interviews, even playfully criticizing projects like Gladiator II. Despite this, his acting choices remain strong and enjoyable, and his latest film, Bear Country, has the potential to be another success.
