Russell Crowe’s New $45.5M WWII Box Office Gem Is Coming To Netflix Next Month To Be Discovered By American Subscribers

Russell Crowe’s new hidden gem is finally being unleashed on Netflix.

Russell Crowe, the Academy Award-winning actor, is known for being incredibly productive, often appearing in two or three films each year. However, 2025 was different – he only starred in one movie, a World War II drama called Nuremberg, and it proved to be one of his most challenging roles. He played Hermann Göring, Hitler’s right-hand man. The film centers on U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (played by Rami Malek) as he assesses the mental state of leading Nazi officials before their historic trial.

Although the World War II drama didn’t perform well in US theaters, earning only $14.5 million, it became a surprising success overall, bringing in a total of $45.5 million thanks to strong international sales. Now, viewers in the United States will have another opportunity to watch the film, as Nuremberg will be available on Netflix starting March 7th.

The new World War II film, made with a budget of about $7 to $10 million, became a surprising box office success thanks to strong international appeal, particularly in Europe—including Italy. Several factors contributed to this, including the popularity of its star, the historical significance of the war in Europe, and positive reviews spreading by word of mouth.

Before its US release, the historical drama Nuremberg premiered at TIFF, where it first received mostly negative reviews, with a score around 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. But opinions quickly changed, and the film eventually earned a ‘fresh’ rating with a final score of 72%.

The movie has been a hit with audiences, earning a fantastic 95% approval rating. This is the best score of director Ridley Scott’s entire career, surpassing even beloved films like L.A. Confidential (94%) and American Gangster (90%).

I was absolutely captivated by Nuremberg. What struck me most was how clearly and powerfully the film presented this important historical trial. And the acting! Russell Crowe was phenomenal as Göring – truly chilling. People were already talking about whether he deserved an award, and he was even considered for a BAFTA! Though he didn’t make the final cut, his performance was unforgettable. Rami Malek was equally brilliant; the way he challenged Crowe’s character created this incredible, tense dynamic – a real battle of wits that kept me on the edge of my seat.

This WWII drama is based on Jack El-Hai’s 2013 book, The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. James Vanderbilt wrote and directed the film, which also stars Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Richard E. Grant, Michael Shannon, and Colin Hanks.

Even though Nuremberg isn’t available in theaters in some countries, like Germany, until April 2026, it’s now available to rent or buy digitally. While the film didn’t do well in US cinemas, more and more American viewers are discovering it and enjoying it as a successful digital release.

Thanks to positive buzz, the show Nuremberg could reach a wider American audience on a major streaming platform and finally achieve the recognition it deserves.
