Ryan Reynolds & More Celebrities Take Over Canada’s World Cup Opener

You oughta know World Cup 2026 has reached Canada.

Canadian musicians Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé kicked off the celebrations at a recent basketball game in Toronto, performing at the opening ceremony when Canada played against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12th.

Wearing a red, white, and blue jacket, 52-year-old Alanis Morissette beautifully sang the Canadian national anthem, “O Canada.” Before the game started, 50-year-old Michael Bublé, dressed in a suit, performed a cover of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home to Me” with the Sole Power Choir.

In the stands, Vancouver-born Ryan Reynolds was spotted rooting for his native team.

Canada is co-hosting this year’s soccer tournament alongside two other North American countries. The tournament began on June 11th with a spectacular opening ceremony in Mexico, featuring performances by global stars like Shakira, Burna Boy, Salma Hayek Pinault, J Balvin, Andrea Bocelli, and EJAE, representing a celebration of worldwide togetherness.

The first event of the World Cup in the United States will be a ceremony on June 12th featuring performances by Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Tyla, Dan + Shay, and Rema. The show will be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

I’m honored to be singing the ceremonial song,” she shared with People magazine on June 8th. “It’s actually an older song – it’s on one of my albums – and I’m really looking forward to performing it.”

Fans can look forward to incredible concerts throughout the 39-day sporting event. Major stars like Madonna, BTS, and Shakira are scheduled to perform at FIFA’s first-ever World Cup Final Halftime Show in New Jersey on July 19th.

This special event will be organized by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and he’s hinted at some exciting surprises.

He announced on May 13th that the event will feature singing, dancing, and music, and will be a celebration of the diversity and talent of people from all walks of life.
