MSI’s upcoming handheld gaming PC is expected to be quite expensive – potentially costing as much as a major household appliance like a washing machine or refrigerator, or even a month’s worth of groceries for a small family.

MSI first showed off the Claw A8 handheld gaming device at Computex in May, but we still don’t know how much it will cost or when it will be available in the US. While some stores in Europe began taking pre-orders in July, the device has now appeared on Newegg’s US website.

Wow, I just saw a listing for the MSI Claw A8 over at VideoCardz, and the price is seriously high – $1,149! It *could* be a temporary price, but honestly, I think that’s probably what we’re looking at for the final cost of the handheld. It’s definitely a premium device, it seems.

The MSI Claw A8 is powered by the latest AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor. It’s similar to the MSI Claw 8 AI+, which uses an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor and Arc 140V graphics.

As of today, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ is selling for $1,099.99 at Best Buy (the version with 32GB of RAM). It originally cost $899, but like many products lately, the price has increased. This is largely due to rising component costs and other industry-wide factors, and the 32GB of RAM contributes to the higher price.

Even with these costs, it’s still less expensive than the Lenovo Legion Go 2, which sells for $1,099 (with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage) at Best Buy. The Legion Go 2 also has a powerful Z2 Extreme processor, but its bigger 8.8-inch 144Hz OLED screen and detachable controllers offer a lot of extra value.

The cost of RAM is going up quickly. Dell has already announced they’re raising prices, and other companies are likely to follow suit.

While the two high-end MSI gaming handhelds have a few design variations, they both feature 8-inch screens with smooth, fast refresh rates of up to 120Hz and a crisp 1920×1200 resolution.

The MSI Claw A8 comes in a bright lime green, which helps it stand out since most gaming handhelds are typically white or black. If you like the MSI Claw A8 but prefer a more subtle look, it will also be offered in white.

A recently discovered MSI Claw A8 handheld gaming PC, as reported by VideoCardz, features a powerful Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM, and a spacious 1TB NVMe SSD. It also includes support for the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology and comes with Windows 11 pre-installed—both expected features for a device of this type.

MSI hasn’t announced when the Claw A8 will be available in the US, but a recent listing on Newegg suggests it might be coming soon.
