We expected GSC Game World to release an update for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl around the time the game launched on PS5, and that update is now here – it’s called the Expedition Update. It’s available now on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and it introduces a very challenging new Master Difficulty level, but you can only choose this difficulty when you start a new game.
We don’t know the specific details of the challenge, but Expedition Mode adds another layer of difficulty. When activated, you can only save your game by manually exiting, and auto-saves are limited to certain missions or when you leave a safe camp. This means if you don’t take care of your character’s health or pay attention to your surroundings, you could lose a lot of progress.
The update also brings several improvements, like a revamped stamina and sprint system – now including a jogging option. Players can use a new Immersive Mode for taking fast screenshots, and two new anomalies, Steam and Antigravitational Drops, have been added to the Zone. Mutants now have more realistic death animations, and you might encounter occasional light rain during your explorations.
