Microsoft unexpectedly announced that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be removed from Xbox Game Pass this month. Players who want to keep playing will need to purchase the game separately.
The announcement is particularly noticeable with the PlayStation 5 version of the game launching on November 20th. This puts Game Pass subscribers in a difficult position – they either need to purchase the game before it comes to PS5, or they’ll lose the ability to play it through their subscription.
Some gamers feel Microsoft is taking games off Game Pass faster than promised, going back on the idea of having a consistently large library from the start. Others disagree, pointing out that it’s normal for games to be added and removed from subscription services like Game Pass over time.
Essentially, the company seems to be prioritizing the launch of their game on PlayStation 5. By removing it from Xbox Game Pass, they can encourage full-price purchases on PS5 instead of relying on Game Pass subscriptions. However, this sudden change has upset some players who initially accessed the game through Game Pass and believed their access would be ongoing.
