GSC Game World revealed that a new expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, called “Cost of Hope,” will be released this summer.
Here is an overview of the expansion, via GSC Game World:
Embark on a new journey through the Zone – a huge, open-ended expansion offering dozens of hours of gameplay. You’ll encounter unsettling stories, complex characters, and the familiar, oppressive feeling of ruin… but with a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
A long-standing conflict is flaring up again. The Duty faction views the Zone as a dangerous enemy that needs to be eliminated, while Freedom sees it as a valuable resource to be studied and used for the benefit of everyone. A temporary peace kept things stable for a while, but those kinds of agreements don’t usually last.
In the “Cost of Hope” DLC, you reprise your role as Skif from the main game, experiencing a new story that runs parallel to the events of Heart of Chornobyl. A signal on your PDA will start the new questline as you play. Remember, your decisions matter and can have far-reaching consequences, impacting not only the Zone but the world beyond.

“Cost of Hope” expands the game world with two new areas to discover. Players can explore the infamous Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which has been closed off for decades but is now attracting adventurers. They’ll also navigate the intricate pathways of the Iron Forest, finding previously hidden locations. Both areas have their own central hubs, quests, and things to do. Plus, new weapons and equipment will help Skif survive the mutants, anomalies, and other threats that await.
The expansions for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be released in parts, with “Cost of Hope” being the second of three planned story chapters. This, along with a future downloadable story that we’ll announce later, will create a larger, connected narrative within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. We’ll share more details about the summer 2026 release soon.
You can now play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It’s available for download on Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and the Microsoft Store.
