Sabrina Carpenter: Chappell Roan “Whipped” Grammys Photogs Into Shape

Chappell Roan didn’t need a grand gesture to make an impact at the 2026 Grammys. Simply speaking out about photographers overstepping boundaries was enough to shift the conversation.

I was so thrilled to see Sabrina Carpenter acknowledge the incredible impact we’ve all been having! On February 1st, right outside the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, she actually mentioned what she called the ‘Chappell effect’ – it was amazing to hear her recognize the energy and support we’ve built!

The singer, known for her song “Manchild,” noticed the photographers were unusually quiet as she walked the red carpet at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 1st. She commented that Chappell had really sparked a significant change.

Sabrina added with a smile, “She really whipped them into shape.”

Photographers directed the Grammy-winning artist – nominated six times tonight, including for Album of the Year – telling her where to look so they could get the best possible pictures of her beautiful, ruffled and beaded dress. (Check out all the red carpet looks from the 2026 Grammys.)

“Oh, just get me as I walk,” Sabrina replied with a smile.

Chappell told Zuri Hall from Live From TopMob: Grammys 2026 that she always found walking the red carpet to be the most challenging part of events like the Grammys.

“I’m not performing this year,” she added, “so this is a piece of cake.”

Chappell might win a couple of Grammys, potentially even beating Sabrina. They’re both nominated for Record of the Year – Chappell for his song “The Subway” and Sabrina for “Manchild” – and also for Best Pop Solo Performance.

You know, I was chatting with a fantastic artist – she actually took home a Grammy last year! – and she shared something really relatable with me. She told me the whole red carpet experience can be incredibly ‘overstimulating.’ It’s a lot, honestly – all the lights, the noise, and just being ‘on’ for everyone. She was explaining this to a friend named Zuri, and it really resonated. It’s a good reminder that even people who seem to thrive in the spotlight need to prioritize their well-being.

She added that it’s unsettling how people are constantly filming you without you knowing what they plan to do with the footage – it’s a bit wild!

When asked what she thought people meant by saying she has a unique style, the singer explained, “I think it means I do things my own way. That’s really my whole approach – I love to be different and challenge expectations, so I hope that’s what people see!”

In October 2024, Chappell publicly confronted a photographer at the premiere of the Netflix concert film Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour, accusing them of being “so disrespectful” to her at the Grammys earlier in the year.

She confirmed in a video circulating online that he yelled at her at the Grammy party. “You were really rude,” she said, “and I deserve an apology for how you treated me. I need you to apologize.”

Her appearance on the 2026 Grammys red carpet was brief but memorable. Though the event seemed calm, the fashion choices made a big impact.
