Sabrina Carpenter Lyrics Seemingly Hint at Shawn Mendes, Barry Keoghan

Sabrina Carpenter is leaving quite an impression with her new music.

After the “Taste” artist unveiled their seventh studio album titled “Man’s Best Friend ” on Aug. 29, fans promptly began deciphering the song lyrics’ meanings – with some speculating that one of the album’s notable songs, “Go Go Juice,” may hint at past relationships with rumored former partners.

During the chorus of the song, Sabrina crooned, ‘I’m merely drinking to get in touch with someone / Nobody seems safe when I’ve had a bit too much.’ It could be John or Larry, goodness knows who it might be. Or maybe even someone else if I’m feeling a certain way.

One user on the platform previously known as Twitter proposed a theory suggesting that Sabrina purposely used words that rhyme with the names of four alleged past partners, hinting that the individual whose name sounds like ‘villain’ could potentially be Dylan O’Brien, who was rumored to be associated with Sabrina in September 2022.

Furthermore, the user came to the conclusion that “John” might be a disguise for Shawn Mendes, since it rhymes with Shawn. This was supported by the fact that Shawn had denied dating Sabrina in March 2023. The term “gosh” appeared to refer to Joshua Bassett, particularly due to a rumored love triangle involving him, Sabrina, and Olivia Rodrigo. Lastly, “Larry,” which was interpreted as a reference to Barry Keoghan, was linked to Sabrina’s relationship with him from 2023 to 2024.

In a playful manner, Sabrina didn’t explicitly mention any of her previous romantic partners in her album, yet the lyrics suggest a mischievous reflection on her past relationships. On the track “Never Getting Laid,” she sings about wishing well for an ex, but there seems to be a limit to her generosity.

She sang on the track, expressing her hope for a lifetime filled with joy, and an eternity where there’s no sorrow or hardship.

Instead, “The final song on the album titled ‘Goodbye’ adopted a direct method to bid farewell to a former romantic connection.

“I’ll say, ‘Arrivederci, au revoir,’” Sabrina sang. “Forgive my French, but, f–k you, ta-ta.”

Regrettably, die-hard supporters hoping to uncover the specific individuals that Sabrina’s tunes revolve around may be disappointed, as the Grammy award-winning artist tends to maintain a veil of secrecy when it comes to her song lyrics.

In a recent chat on CBS Mornings, I shared that instead of directly visualizing someone, it’s far more engaging for me to imagine them in my mind’s eye. Rather than picturing them as they appear to me, I prefer to envision them based on my own mental representation.

Born on May 11, 1999, Sabrina, the youngest among three siblings, hails from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Being born under the sign of Taurus, she attributes her creative growth to the tranquil environment in her hometown. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning in 2024, she shared, “The peacefulness allowed me to feel bored at times, and it was during those moments of boredom that my ideas would take shape.

At the age of 2, she began taking dance classes and started singing at the age of 6, leading her to request home schooling from her parents so she could dedicate more time to her artistic pursuits. As she shared with Vogue in March 2025, “I felt a strong desire to try out for various performances.

3. Prior to achieving stardom on the Disney channel, “Espresso” singer finished third in the 2009 singing competition known as “The Next Miley Cyrus Contest“. For Sabrina, the star of “Hannah Montana” was a childhood hero, and meeting her was more than just exciting-if only she could have worn a different outfit that day.

In an interview with MTV UK, she shared that at the age of 10, Miley Cyrus was her idol. However, she expressed remorse about the fedora she wore during their meeting. Despite being unwell, Miley was exceptionally kind to her when they met, an encounter she will always remember fondly.

4. Creativity runs deep in the Carpenter family, with Elizabeth Carpenter, now a chiropractor, being a former dancer, and David Carpenter, her father, having been a musician before.

5. Although Sabrina’s parents seem to have retired from performing, her aunt Nancy Cartwright, on the other hand, is still very much active in the industry. Known for her exceptional voice acting skills, she is best recognized as the voice of Bart Simpson, one of her most iconic characters.

In her TikTok posted in July 2024, Nancy excitedly expressed, “Can you believe it? After all these years, I’ve discovered that I’m a relative of a famous celebrity!

Individuals who were introduced to dance gaming through “Just Dance 2” might not have encountered Sabrina as one of the game’s instructors. However, players can recognize the popular singer Sabrina when they dance to the song “I’m A Gummy Bear” by Gummibär.

As a child, Sabrina found Christina Aguilera to be one of her significant sources of inspiration. In fact, when inviting her on stage during the Los Angeles stop of the “Short n’ Sweet” tour in November 2024 to perform “Ain’t No Other Man” and “What A Girl Wants”, the artist behind “Taste” referred to her as one of her most influential idols.

8. When she was younger, Sabrina openly admitted that she had a crush on the former teen idol: Zac Efron. This attraction intensified even more after she encountered him, the star of “Hairspray,” at the beach when she was just 12 years old.

She shared with W magazine in September 2024 that he would likely forget this encounter. However, she recounted the moment when she saw him, exclaiming her admiration for his work, to which he responded by giving her a hug. Overwhelmed by the experience, she recalled thinking, “Oh my god-he wasn’t wearing a shirt and he gave me a hug!” She added, with excitement, “I was like, This is amazing. I’m never washing my body again!

9. Similar to Justin Bieber, the Grammy winner kick-started her career by posting covers on YouTube at a young age, around 10 years old. Her repertoire often included songs originally sung by artists like Christina, Taylor Swift, Adele, and The Beatles.

10. Collaboration is something Sabrina highly values, as evident in her work on her debut single “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” (released in 2014), which she created alongside Meghan Trainor.

Meghan shared on the “I Am Paris” podcast in July 2024 that many people are unaware of this, but she was the one who wrote Sabrina Carpenter’s debut song. It’s adorable, and I cherish those moments because now I can say, ‘I had a song with her at the start of her career.’

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but reminisce about Sabrina’s humble beginnings before her meteoric rise to stardom on the Disney Channel. Just like countless other actors, she took her first steps into the world of acting on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” gracing our screens in the season 12 episode “Possessed,” at a tender age of 11 years old.

Three years after that, she landed a major role, playing Maya Hart in the 2014 Disney Channel series “Girl Meets World.” In this series, she starred alongside Rowan Blanchard, as well as Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel who were veterans from the original show “Boy Meets World.” Looking back on her career, the Grammy Award winner appreciates the show for what it represented.

In 2020, she shared with Teen Vogue that “It was my universe, it was my all,” expressing immense pride about being a part of it and identifying with its values.

13a. Yet, my ascent to stardom wasn’t devoid of challenges. Back when I was 18, I, along with my parents and manager, faced a lawsuit from my ex-music managers, Stan Rogow and Elliot Lurie, who accused us of not fulfilling our contractual obligations following their unexpected termination in August 2014. Fortunately, I emerged victorious in that case, and I even penned the single “Sue Me” for the year 2018, encapsulating this experience.

She shared with Variety in August 2024, “I was quite young, and the experience reminded me of the sensation after a breakup – that persistent longing even when you know they no longer yearn for what they once had.

In the realm of theater, “one night only” is a term commonly heard, but rarely followed by another. However, things took an unexpected turn for Sabrina in March 2020 when she was preparing for a five-month stint as Cady Heron in the Broadway production of “Mean Girls.” Unfortunately, this lasted just one night.

In an interview with CBS Sunday Mornings in October 2024, she shared that after rehearsing in New York for approximately three months, they had their initial performances for two nights before the Covid pandemic hit. This experience left her feeling deeply humbled. She was abruptly sent home and found herself reflecting, “Wow, I thought I could handle eight shows a week, having prepared for it, but now everything’s just quiet.

While on my travels, I’ve often adopted an unusual pseudonym – Mrs. Doubtfire, inspired by the beloved 1993 movie featuring the inimitable Robin Williams.

She reminisced about her experience as she underwent the Vanity Fair Lie Detector Test in 2022, sharing, “There’s something magical about stepping off a plane and spotting a man with a Mrs. Doubtfire sign. However, when it turned out to be me, they were initially let down. But soon enough, people started realizing the trick, so it doesn’t happen anymore.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share that one of the standout tracks on Sabrina’s 2022 album, “Emails I Can’t Send,” carries a deeply personal significance to her family. This song is a poignant exploration of her father’s infidelity and its impact on her perspective towards “nice guys.” However, when it came to confronting him with the song’s raw emotions, Sabrina chose the power of silence, as she revealed in an interview with Vogue in February 2025, stating unequivocally that she “most certainly did not play it for him in person.

Following the launch of her “Feather” music video, which was partially filmed within New York’s Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Sabrina encountered criticism due to the church officials finding the video’s content to be overtly violent and sexually suggestive. Despite their dismay, Sabrina remained unfazed in addressing the issue.

“We got approval in advance,” she told Variety in November 2023. “And Jesus was a carpenter.”

18. The 2024 hit single “Please, Please, Please” marked the first time one of her songs reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In an unexpected guest spot on vocal coach Eric Vetro’s BBC Maestro course titled “Sing Like the Stars,” she shared that she was incredibly thrilled when composing this song as it represented a piece of herself she had longed to express, not only in writing but also in releasing and performing it.

Sabrina doesn’t shy away from setting the record straight. When people on social media questioned whether the “Espresso” singer was lip-syncing during her Short n’ Sweet Tour, she promptly debunked these rumors.

In her comment on a TikTok post from October 2024, Sabrina affirmed that she sings live at every performance without exception, and suggested, “Perhaps we could discuss my audio setup with the audio engineers instead?

20. Sabrina is an advocate for female artists owning their sexuality.

In a conversation with The Sun on Sunday, Sabrina stated plainly, “My stance has consistently been transparent: if you’re uncomfortable with a woman who embraces her sexual confidence, perhaps my performances aren’t for you.

She went on to say, “Female artists have been judged harshly throughout history. During the 2000s, it was Rihanna, during the 1990s, Britney Spears, and in the 1980s, Madonna-and now it’s my turn.
