Sad the Battlefield 6 Open Beta is over? I am, too, but hey — Battlefield 2042 just got a surprise new Update 9.2, and it has BF6 rewards for everyone that plays it

Unfortunately, just as all good things eventually finish, so too is ending the much-loved open beta for Battlefield 6 by Electronic Arts (EA) and DICE. Over the course of two weekends this month, a massive number of players – well over half a million – took part in the multiplayer FPS testing on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5 platforms. In fact, it managed to surpass Call of Duty’s record on Steam.

Currently, the servers are offline, leaving fans of its intense combat feeling withdrawal as they eagerly await the game’s official release on October 10. To keep the community engaged in the meantime, DICE has unexpectedly rolled out a fresh update for Battlefield 2042, and it offers rewards that can be redeemed for Battlefield 6.

This update is referred to as Update 9.2, often called the “Pathway to Battlefield 6.” It introduces a fresh battleground for combat, along with new weapons and vehicles for engagement. Additionally, it offers a complimentary 60-level Road to Battlefield 6 Battle Pass that you can advance through by participating between August 18 and October 7.

The standout feature in the latest update (you can find the detailed rundown here) is the incorporation of Iwo Jima – a renowned map from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 1943, and Battlefield V, which has been refreshed and redesigned specifically for Battlefield 2042. This revamped version of the extensive coastal stage retains its signature boat landings, bunkers, and trenches, but adds a dynamic element with an active volcano that could possibly impact the outcome of a game.

In Battlefield 2042, some new additions to the sandbox include an enhanced KFS2000 bullpup assault rifle known for its high accuracy and manageable control, as well as the Lynx sniper rifle which is obtainable if you participated in the Battlefield 6 Open Beta. If you missed out on the beta, don’t worry – you can still acquire the Lynx at a later time. The Lynx is a semi-automatic anti-material rifle that boasts enough force to cause damage to structures and pierce through vehicle armor.

The feedback during the Open Beta weekends was overwhelmingly favorable, with only minor exceptions. Most users found that the Rush mode’s representation seemed too limited, and they strongly criticized the absence of a server browser for connecting to official DICE servers.

As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about two fresh additions to the skies! We’re talking about none other than the A-10 Warthog (hear that BRRRT?) and the SU-25-TM Frogfoot. These babies have been given a makeover with enhanced and refined capabilities, ready to rock your gaming world!

According to DICE, these aircraft are tailor-made for those with an insatiable appetite for tank hunting. So, if you’ve always dreamed of being the predator instead of the prey, these jets are just what you need!

Regarding the 60-level Battle Pass, it offers more than 50 rewards that take inspiration from cherished earlier Battlefield games such as Battlefield 1, V, Bad Company 2, 3, and 4. Notably, several levels within this pass provide multiple items upon reaching them. However, the true appeal lies in the fact that it also offers 30 rewards specifically for Battlefield 6 at Tier 8, 19, 30, 40, 49, and 60 of the pass. Among these, you’ll find various skins, which are illustrated in the image provided below.

As a battlefield enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that if I continue using the same EA account for Battlefield 6 that I currently use for Battlefield 2042, I’ll automatically receive my rewards – no additional steps required! All I need to do is ensure I log into Battlefield 6 before March 31, 2026. It’s a great perk for those of us who love staying within the battlefield universe!

For enthusiasts of Battlefield who were disappointed about not being able to participate in the Battlefield 6 Open Beta any longer, it’s a pleasant surprise to discover that there’s fresh content to engage with, even if Battlefield 2042 hasn’t been widely acclaimed by players. This new content offers an opportunity to collect rewards for the forthcoming title as well.

2025 seems set to feature an outstanding game with Battlefield 6, boasting the potential to outshine Call of Duty this year. The revival of iconic character classes, innovative gadgets unique to each class that revolutionize gameplay, state-of-the-art environmental destruction capabilities, and other impressive features make it a highly anticipated sequel that longtime Battlefield enthusiasts have eagerly awaited for quite some time.

The feedback during both Open Beta weekends was overwhelmingly positive overall, but there were some concerns. Many players felt that the Rush mode seemed cramped and were disappointed by the absence of a server browser for DICE servers. Some critics also argued that the game is too fast and questioned if it has lost its original character. Additionally, others had issues with the size of the maps, stating they didn’t feel spacious enough.

Despite DICE’s assurance that larger maps will be introduced in the complete game, there’s still ample time for the developers to fine-tune and adjust before October 10th. I’m optimistic they’ll take proactive steps to address all the feedback they’ve received so far. In the meantime, I plan on revisiting Battlefield 2042 after a long hiatus to snag some enticing Battlefield 6 cosmetics.

It’s now possible to pre-order Battlefield 6 on platforms such as Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (including Steam, the EA app, and Epic Games), and PS5. The standard edition of the game costs $69.99. Initially, there were worries that the price would be $80, but EA has assured fans that they will avoid this higher price point, unlike some publishers like Nintendo who have chosen to adopt it.
