Prior to the announcement that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher would team up with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the upcoming film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, it was disclosed that actress Sadie Sink from “Stranger Things” had been cast in the production. Due to Marvel’s secretive approach to filmmaking, specifics about her character are currently under lock and key. However, this hasn’t deterred fans from hypothesizing about who Sink might portray in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some believe she would be an excellent choice for Jean Grey, potentially paving the way for the MCU’s X-Men reboot. Alternatively, whispers circulate that she may take on the role of Mayday Parker, aka Spider-Girl. Fans have even created art imagining Sink embodying this character in “Brand New Day”.
On Instagram, artist MOHD HARRIS posted their interpretation of Sink as Spider-Girl. The costume, reminiscent of comic book characters from Marvel, adorns the hero who perches on a building, overlooking the New York City skyline, poised to save the day. Here’s the image for you:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s Spider-Girl Rumors Explained
In May, whispers started about Sink potentially stepping into the role of Spider-Girl, with a twist that her character Mayday Parker could be the daughter of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson. If these rumors hold true, it would introduce a multiverse aspect to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, enhancing the primarily street-level story that director Destin Daniel Cretton intends to portray. Given that Holland’s Peter previously teamed up with Maguire’s Spidey in Spider-Man: No Way Home, casting Mayday Parker would help maintain a link between the current MCU films and an earlier phase of Spider-Man cinematic history, without requiring Maguire to return.
I was amongst those who, earlier this month, thought they’d caught a glimpse of Sink filming in Glasgow. However, upon closer inspection, the woman in the set photos turned out to be a crew member. Despite not making an official appearance yet, Sink is indeed part of the project as Hisako Film Lab recently announced a special message Cretton recorded with Holland and Sink for aspiring filmmakers. While Sink hasn’t been officially unveiled in leaked looks at “Brand New Day”, fans have already gotten a taste of the action through videos showcasing a high-speed chase scene.
Introducing Mayday Parker in “Brand New Day” could bring an intriguing twist, as she interacts with a counterpart of her father, Peter One (Spider-Man). The unique dynamic of Spider-Girl teaming up with a contemporary version of her father promises an exciting and entertaining narrative. However, the rumor about her appearance is still unconfirmed. Since Kevin Feige has emphasized the street-level realism in “Brand New Day” (as suggested by the Punisher’s presence), adding multiversal elements might conflict with this realistic tone. Given the use of the multiverse in “No Way Home”, it seems the filmmakers may opt for a more grounded storyline in this installment.
