Everyone’s wondering who Sadie Sink, the actress from Stranger Things, will play in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. The fact that Marvel hasn’t revealed her role, even after the first trailer, suggests it might be a significant surprise they’re saving for the film itself. Her casting is a big deal, and it’s possible we won’t know her character until we actually see the movie.
I’m already excited about all the villains we know are coming in Brand New Day, but fans have been buzzing about what role Anya Taylor-Joy’s character will play. Some think she’ll be a classic villain like Typhoid Mary or Shathra, while others are hoping she’ll be a new hero – maybe even Jean Grey or Firestar! Honestly, there are so many options, but after looking at everything, I really think the clues point towards one particular path.
The Secrecy Surrounding Sadie Sink’s Character Suggests She Is Jean Grey

Sadie Sink taking on the role of Jean Grey would be her most prominent part yet. Jean Grey is a central figure in the X-Men, a well-known character, and a hugely important female hero in Marvel Comics. This suggests Sink will likely be a major player in future X-Men and mutant-focused projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially involved in some of its biggest storylines. If Jean Grey appears in the rumored Brand New Day project, it would be a game-changer for the MCU in a way that other roles Sadie Sink is considered for simply wouldn’t be.
Although there’s been talk of several characters appearing in the film, none are as important as Jean Grey. Characters like Typhoid Mary, Shathra, and Firestar are relatively obscure, and their inclusion doesn’t justify all the secrecy. Seeing Firestar in the MCU would be great, but her appearance wouldn’t be a major event for the overall story, making the need for secrecy puzzling.
Marvel’s extreme secrecy surrounding Sadie Sink’s role has led many to believe she’s playing Jean Grey. While it’s not definitive proof, it’s a strong indication. Marvel usually doesn’t keep details so tightly under wraps for minor characters, suggesting Sink’s character is significant – and Jean Grey certainly fits that bill for fans of the X-Men.
Beyond everything else, Marvel must understand the potential for excessive fan speculation when a role is kept under wraps. As seen with shows like WandaVision, out-of-control expectations can negatively impact how a project is received. Marvel Studios is aware that keeping Sadie Sink’s role a secret carries this risk, and fans would likely be very disappointed if she were playing a minor character like Shathra. Given Marvel’s track record, it’s probable that Sink is actually playing a significant character like Jean Grey.
Sink’s Role Isn’t The Only Big Secret Brand New Day Is Keeping

While details about Sink’s character are being kept secret, the biggest mystery surrounding the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is who the main villain will be. Several antagonists – Boomerang, Tarantula, Tombstone, Scorpion, and The Hand – have been confirmed, but none of them feel like the primary threat. Tombstone wasn’t even featured in the trailer, and none of these characters usually take center stage as the villain in a major Spider-Man film.
It’s likely there’s a hidden villain we haven’t met yet. Some fans think the Jackal might show up in Brand New Day, tying together the different plot threads. But that’s just one idea about who the villain could be. It would be strange to have a Spider-Man movie filled with minor enemies but skip using one of his classic, well-known villains.
Despite the film Brand New Day being just a few months from release, many questions remain about the story. While we don’t know some of the key plot points yet, that mystery is actually building anticipation!
