For several decades now, “Sailor Moon” has been a leading anime franchise, with the tale of the Sailor Scouts appearing on screens multiple times. Remarkably, one of the best and most accurate adaptations of Naoko Takeuchi’s manga series came out recently. Regrettably, similar to many streaming platforms, it seems this adaptation may no longer be available on its original platform. If you wish to rewatch the series before it’s gone, you should act quickly as time is running out.
Back in 2014, I found myself captivated by the debut of “Sailor Moon Crystal,” a web series that brought the manga’s story to life and concluded the journey of Usagi Tsukino. After its initial run, the shojo franchise expanded with two films titled “Sailor Moon Eternal” and “Sailor Moon Cosmos“. However, mark your calendars for July 1st, as “Sailor Moon Crystal” will be departing from Netflix. But don’t worry, this beloved anime has found another home where it continues to thrive.
If you’re a fan of the Sailor Scouts, I have some great news! The entire series is now available for streaming on Hulu. For those who prefer Crunchyroll, you can even catch the first season there. So, grab your popcorn and settle in to enjoy the magical world of “Sailor Moon” once more!
The Future of Sailor Moon
To date, there’s been no news about a future anime adaptation of “Sailor Moon”. At this moment, it appears that “Sailor Moon Cosmos” in 2023 could be our last glimpse of the Sailor Scouts for a while, given the show’s history. Originally airing in the late ’90s, it took several decades before the series returned. Here’s hoping that Toei Animation might revisit the world of Usagi Tsukino someday with a new interpretation of this beloved shojo series.
In early 2023, “Sailor Moon” unexpectedly appeared in North America through the live show titled “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon The Super Live.” Although this tour concluded in 2025, it demonstrated a demand for live-action anime performances on Western stages, particularly when converting classic stories into musicals. Previously, productions such as “Death Note” and “Attack on Titan” also showcased their characters singing together.
Today’s streaming competition, particularly in the realm of anime, has grown increasingly intense as the medium gains global recognition. A plethora of classic and exclusive series are now available on services like Netflix, HBO Max, Crunchyroll, and Hulu. It’s likely that we’ll see even more examples of content jumping from one platform to another. Fortunately, _Sailor Moon_ continues to be a staple on these streaming services.
