Sam Altman expects first AI workers this year, OpenAI closer to AGI

As a dedicated researcher, I find myself excited about the recent insights from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. He posits that we might witness the debut of artificial intelligence agents in the workforce this very year. This prediction stems from our progress towards creating artificial general intelligence (AGI) that closely resembles human cognition.

In a blog post called “Reflections,” published on January 6th, Altman expressed his view that by the year 2025, AI agents could potentially enter the workforce and significantly impact the productivity of companies.

AI agents, also known as autonomous AI, are intelligent computer systems capable of independent thinking and action. They have the ability to comprehend intricate objectives, make decisions based on this understanding, perform tasks with limited human input, and execute complex chains of logic.

As a researcher, I share the confidence of Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, in the widespread adoption of AI agents. The buzz around enterprise integration of agentic AI is undeniably the current trend, as I observed during our recent earnings call in November.

Additionally, Altman is equally certain that OpenAI is capable of creating and constructing artificial general intelligence. This progressively narrows the gap between AI and human-like intelligence.

“We are now confident we know how to build AGI as we have traditionally understood it,”

According to Altman, repeatedly providing powerful tools to individuals often results in exceptional, widely dispersed achievements. However, he’s now shifting their focus towards something more than that – “striving for genuine superintelligence.

Advanced, intelligent technologies may significantly speed up the pace of scientific exploration and technological advancements, far beyond our individual capabilities. This could lead to a dramatic boost in wealth and well-being.

Launching ChatGPT, a chatbot from OpenAI, has surprisingly accelerated the anticipated growth spurt of the AI revolution that’s expected to flourish around 2025.

At last, we’re witnessing some significant benefits we’ve long anticipated from AI, and it’s clear there’s even more to look forward to in the near future,” he expressed.
