Sam Raimi Confirms Spider-Man 4 Isn’t Happening

For years, Marvel fans have wondered about Spider-Man 4. Sam Raimi directed the first three Spider-Man movies, with Spider-Man 3 released in 2007. Though a fourth film was planned, it was eventually cancelled. Now, it seems Spider-Man 4 will never be made.

With Sam Raimi directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans started wondering if Spider-Man 4 might finally be made. However, in a recent interview, Raimi confirmed that a fourth Spider-Man film is not currently planned.

Sam Raimi has a deep affection for the Spider-Man films and the people who create them. He was particularly impressed with Marvel Studios, calling them “better than ever” after directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, his previous Spider-Man leads, Tobey Maguire (as Peter Parker) and Kirsten Dunst (as Mary Jane Watson), are now working on other projects.

Additionally, Raimi doesn’t want to revisit his previous work, stating it wouldn’t feel authentic for him to try and revive his take on the story. He explains he’s gladly passed the responsibility on to others and is proud to have been involved in the first place.

That movie suggested a lot had happened to his Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane in the years following Spider-Man 3. While fans were hoping for more details, it now appears that Peter finding a new direction in No Way Home is the closest they’ll get to a resolution, and they’ll have to imagine what happened in between themselves.

Despite some initial ideas, disagreements between director Sam Raimi and the studio during the making of Spider-Man 3 led to those plans being scrapped.
