Limp Bizkit is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Sam Rivers, the bassist and cofounder of the nu metal band, has died at the age of 48.

The band Limp Bizkit announced today the passing of their bassist, Sam Rivers. In a statement posted on social media on October 18th, members Fred Durst, Wes Borland, John Otto, and DJ Lethal described Rivers as more than just a bandmate; he was a vital and magical presence, the driving force behind their music and a source of calm and soulfulness.

From the very beginning, Sam brought a unique energy and incredible rhythm to our music that no one else could replicate. He was a naturally gifted musician with a memorable personality and a huge heart. We shared countless special moments together—some exciting, some peaceful, all beautiful—and Sam made each one even more meaningful.

Rivers’ bandmates remembered him as an incredibly special person – a true legend, and one of the greatest of all time.

They finished by saying his energy would live on through his music, performances, and the memories he created. “We love you, Sam,” they said. “We’ll always remember you, and your music will play on forever. Rest in peace.”

Limp Bizkit was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1994 by Fred Durst and John Otto. The band released four albums and one EP over eleven years before taking a break, then reunited in 2009. Their most recent album, *Still Sucks*, came out in 2021.

Following the death of Rivers, Durst publicly remembered his friend, expressing his amazement at Rivers’ musical skill and the positive impact he had on others.
