While racing movies often come to mind when thinking about great car films, heist movies actually deliver a more exciting experience. There’s nothing quite like the suspense of watching a skilled driver outrun the police after a daring crime. Because of this, car chases are naturally more thrilling to watch than even the most competitive races.
One of the most thrilling car stunts in film history is the opening sequence of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. It immediately showcases the incredible driving skills of Ansel Elgort’s character, a getaway driver, perfectly synchronized with a fast-paced soundtrack. This scene establishes the movie’s energetic rhythm, maintaining a sense of tension throughout, even in quieter moments.
I’ve been searching for a movie like Baby Driver since I first saw it in 2017, but nothing has quite captured the same feeling. While it’s not as good, the 2025 film Eenie Meanie comes incredibly close to that vibe, and I really enjoyed it, even though critics didn’t.
Eenie Meanie Is A Darkly Funny Thriller About A Getaway Driver
Samara Weaving stars as Edie, known as “Eeenie Meanie,” a former getaway driver trying to leave her criminal life behind while she attends college. When a pregnancy test reveals unexpected news, she’s pulled back into that world by her ex-boyfriend, who is in trouble with the mob and desperately needs her help, despite her reluctance.
I’m totally hooked on this show! The actress, Weaving, is just amazing – she’s got this natural charm and delivers her lines with perfect deadpan humor, which really fits her character’s stressed-out, sarcastic vibe. Honestly, the show, Eenie Meanie, is such a wild ride! It’s hard to pin down – it’s a thriller, but also super chaotic and funny because the characters keep making these baffling, yet hilarious, decisions. A lot of the humor actually comes from how things spiral out of control when people are violent or dishonest, which is… unexpected, to say the least!
The movie’s exciting chase scene is full of impressive car stunts, a powerful performance from Weaving as a character on the edge, and cleverly timed events. Unlike many similar films, Eenie Meanie delivers a satisfying conclusion that feels grounded in reality, making it a good choice for fans of Baby Driver who are looking for something beyond a simple happy ending.
Eenie Meanie Has More Similarities With Baby Driver
It’s easy to see the connection between Eenie Meanie and Baby Driver – both films feature drivers who work for criminals but eventually strike out on their own. But the similarities don’t stop there. Like Baby Driver, Eenie Meanie takes a long, winding path before reaching its conclusion.
Both films rely heavily on style, but surprisingly, they focus more on the emotional journeys of their main characters. Interestingly, Eenie Meanie and Baby Driver share a similar story structure and speed. Plus, both movies conclude with optimistic scenes set some time in the future.
Eenie Meanie’s Story Is Better Than The Ratings Suggest
Even with a strong performance from Samara Weaving, exciting action, and a moving story, the movie Eenie Meanie only has a 42% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many critics feel the story is weak because it’s easy to guess what happens next. However, the filmmakers weren’t aiming for a plot full of surprises; the story’s strength lies elsewhere.
From the creators of Deadpool, Eenie Meanie demonstrates their skill at connecting with both characters and viewers on an emotional level. The film tells a gripping and believable story of a woman pushed to her limits and forced to do what she must to survive. Edie is a richly developed character with internal struggles who ultimately learns to put her own needs first.
Baby Driver Is Still The Best Movie Of Its Kind
I really enjoy the movie Eenie Meanie because I’m a big fan of Samara Weaving, and it gives me vibes similar to my favorite Edgar Wright film. That said, Baby Driver is still the best, in my opinion. It builds tension in a really interesting way – through lots of dialogue and slower pacing – creating suspense even when not much is actually happening.
What really sets Baby Driver apart for me, compared to other action movies, is the music. The soundtrack is incredible – you could listen to it constantly! It’s packed with upbeat songs that perfectly match the film’s exciting car chases, and even includes some sweet, romantic tunes that fit the love story.
One more thing I love about the film is how unexpected it is. You typically don’t find heartwarming romance in dark, gritty crime thrillers – especially heist movies with a noir feel, where the main character is often struggling to escape a troubled past. But Baby Driver surprisingly includes a genuinely sweet romantic storyline that feels like something out of a romantic comedy.
Eenie Meanie Could Become A Cult Classic In Future
While it might not reach the level of an Edgar Wright film, Eenie Meanie is a captivating crime thriller, particularly because it explores ideas beyond the central mystery. The film’s growing popularity on streaming platforms suggests that, despite mixed reviews, it’s gaining a dedicated following and could eventually become a cult favorite.
