Samson Studio Lead Says He Can’t Watch Industry Leaders “Just Flushing it All Down in the Toilet”

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Christopher Sundberg – a veteran of the gaming industry and co-founder of Avalanche Studios, known for his work on the Just Cause series – has voiced his satisfaction with the release of Samson: A Tyndalston Story. He recently told GamesRadar that he’s frustrated with the current climate in the gaming world, citing recent layoffs and canceled projects.

Sundberg explained that he created Samson: A Tyndalston Story because he was frustrated with what he saw as the industry’s dishonesty and mismanagement. He felt those in charge were wasting resources and that he’d rather take a bold risk with Samson and attempt to correct the course, even if it meant failing spectacularly, than remain silent and accept the status quo.

Sundberg has often shared his strong opinions about the video game industry. Earlier this year, in February, he described the industry as overly cautious and explained how challenging it is to actually get a game developed these days.

After more than thirty years in the game industry, I’ve never seen things as chaotic and uncertain as they are now,” said Sundberg. “Following the big investment and acquisition in 2021-2023, we’re now facing the consequences – a difficult period that’s lasted for three years.”

He also observed that Liquid Swords was managing its finances carefully, and had unfortunately had to reduce its staff by half to improve its financial position for 2026.

We’re very careful with our finances because we’re working with a limited budget. Last year, we had to make the difficult choice to reduce our team by half – we call it what it is, a layoff – to give us more time to develop our game through 2026. We’re focused on creating a fun experience for players that costs $25, hoping it will build a base for future growth. We hope players will recognize the potential in our work and support us as we try to create something truly special.

Before the launch of Samson: A Tyndalston Story, Sundberg explained that the game wouldn’t be perfect. He stated the studio was focusing on making it as good as possible, and they couldn’t ask for more than that.

I previously made a commitment to the team that I wasn’t able to fulfill, and now I’ve made another promise to them while they’re working incredibly hard to complete the game. I told them that Liquid Swords will definitely release it.

The studio has announced that Samson: A Tyndalston Story will be updated on April 10th with bug fixes and improvements to how the game runs. They’re also planning future updates to resolve problems with the game’s animations.
