Though Liquid Swords’ Samson is an action-adventure game focused on combat, it won’t be a completely open world experience. The developer recently clarified that the game, planned for release in early 2026 at a $25 price point, will feature a story-driven structure with specific missions.
You have plenty of freedom to tackle challenges how you like, and the game world rewards curiosity. But it’s a focused experience with a clear direction, not an open-ended, do-anything sandbox.
The game strikes a balance between the vast freedom of open-world games and the focused storytelling of games with smaller, more contained areas. While you can explore the city, the world is carefully designed to be engaging and purposeful, prioritizing quality content over simply being large. It feels reminiscent of Mafia, but with more to discover in the environment around you.
The developer estimates the main story will take about ten hours to complete, but expects players who want to explore everything will spend 25 hours or more playing the game. This is important to consider given the game’s price.
The game Samson centers around a character working to pay off debts, and each day presents unique obstacles. What’s interesting is that players have complete control over how they do it – they can choose dangerous missions, participate in illegal street races, take on driving-related jobs, or even focus on quick escapes.
The game isn’t just about the main story; you can also steal, fight, and follow people to collect important information. These activities add a lot of variety to the gameplay and give you chances to earn improvements and upgrades. These upgrades can then help you make smarter decisions as you progress.
Samson will initially be released on PC, with console versions coming afterward. Keep an eye out for more information and gameplay footage as the launch date approaches.
