I, a long-standing actor in the industry since my debut in “Together for Days” back in 1972, where I played T.M. Gaines, am set to grace our television screens once more. Over the past five decades, I’ve accumulated an impressive body of work that has cemented me as one of Hollywood’s most recognized faces on the big screen. Most recently, I’ve portrayed Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, last appearing in the Marvel Studios series “Secret Invasion”. Despite the mixed reception to this series, earning a 53% Rotten score from Rotten Tomatoes, I am eager to revisit the small screen with an upcoming Paramount+ series.
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! As a supporter, I can proudly announce that I, Samuel L. Jackson, have joined the cast of the upcoming spinoff series, “Nola King,” following my stint in “Secret Invasion” on Disney+. While it seems Paramount+ has chosen to focus solely on the upcoming project, it’s worth noting that “Secret Invasion” marked a significant return to television for me, albeit as a mini-series. Nonetheless, “Nola King” will be my first major TV role post “Secret Invasion,” and I can’t wait to embark on this new journey!
In the upcoming season of “Tulsa King,” set to debut in September, Sylvester Stallone’s character, Dwight Manfredi, will be joined by a newcomer, Russell Lee Washington Jr., portrayed by Jackson. Initially, the Renzetti crime family sends Washington from New York to Tulsa with the mission of eliminating Dwight after their friendship blossomed during Washington’s decade-long prison term. However, upon witnessing Dwight’s accomplishments in Tulsa, Washington decides to return to his hometown, New Orleans, seeking redemption and a chance to repair relationships with family and friends. This decision, however, places him at odds with his former associates, both criminal and law enforcement, in the city he left behind four decades ago. “Nola King” will serve as the first spinoff of “Tulsa King.
Concerning Samuel L. Jackson’s role in “Nola King”, Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment, expressed delight about the actor’s inclusion, describing him as an exceptional screen presence. “Samuel L. Jackson offers an unmatched on-screen presence and global popularity, making him an ideal pick to boost the momentum of one of our top performers and convert it into a successful franchise. Leveraging the breakout success of Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Tulsa King’, viewers will now witness the full impact of Jackson’s powerful, multidimensional performance, amplifying one of Paramount+’s premier series.
Stallone, who both stars in and serves as executive producer for the series “Tulsa King,” expressed excitement over Jackson’s addition to the cast, stating that he was growing the “Tulsa King” family. “Chris McCarthy presented me with a groundbreaking concept: to transform my show from just a mob boss story into a compelling, family-focused franchise. I jumped at the opportunity. Chris Jackson is the ideal candidate to lead this fresh journey in New Orleans, and David Glasser and 101 Studios are the ideal collaborators to bring it to fruition.
I’m honored to be executive produced by the renowned Oscar nominees, Taylor Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone, and Samuel L. Jackson. This project is being produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and will be distributed globally excluding Paramount+ markets by Paramount Global Content Distribution. As of now, the release date for my streaming debut on the platform remains undisclosed.
