Sandra Oh is giving time of death to this kind of Grey’s Anatomy reunion.
More than ten years after leaving her role as Cristina Yang at the end of season 10, the actress recently explained why she’s not included in a group chat with other former cast members.
During the New York City premiere of *Good Fortune* on October 13th, 54-year-old actor playfully remarked to TopMob News, ‘When I began my career, group chats didn’t exist! We barely even had phones back then.’
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the buzz around the premiere of *Grey’s Anatomy*’s 22nd season, and Sandra recently suggested there might be a silver lining for the show’s current cast members. It seems like even after all this time, there’s still potential for exciting things to happen for them!
“I’m sure there is a group chat on there,” she explained, “but I left a long time ago.”
Though she appreciates all the affection fans have shown her character, the actress—known for *Killing Eve*—remains confident she made the right choice when she left *Grey’s Anatomy* in 2014.
Speaking to TopMob News’ *Daily Pop* in August 2021, she said that period of her life was behind her. She also expressed that she now understands how strongly people connected with the character Cristina.
She explained that many people revisited the show *Grey’s Anatomy* during the pandemic, finding it comforting and familiar. She added that she felt lucky to have been a part of such a beloved series.
Although the successful TV series in 2005 gave Sandra financial security, recognition, and a comfortable lifestyle, she shared in a 2025 speech at Dartmouth College that the following ten years were also incredibly difficult.
I pushed myself and my writers very hard,” she said. “If I saw something in a script that didn’t feel true to the character of Cristina, I would insist on changes, because I felt a strong sense of ownership over her story.
She explained that while it helped create a character people remembered, her insistence on specific dialogue and her feeling that she understood the character best actually caused problems for both the writing team and herself.
The Emmy-winning actress shared that a talk with show creator Shonda Rhimes helped her overcome a difficult disagreement with the writers during the sixth season, giving her a new way to handle obstacles.
The unpleasant feeling didn’t disappear, but I started to relate to it differently,” she remembered. “Once I stopped fighting against it and allowed myself to feel it, something new emerged—a deeper connection to the character, my craft, and the other writers. It was more than just my own interpretation or theirs; it was something fuller that helped me understand myself better as an actor and as part of a team.
I’ve realized that truly growing comes from facing uncomfortable situations. It’s where I learn the most, and honestly, it’s something we all have to deal with anyway, so I try to embrace it as a chance to become a better version of myself.

During the third season, Burke unexpectedly left Cristina at their wedding and disappeared. He later achieved success, winning a prestigious Harper Avery award and eventually relocating to Zurich, Switzerland, to establish his own cutting-edge hospital. He built a life there, getting married and starting a family. Years later, in season ten, he asked Cristina to take over his hospital as he prepared to retire.
Isaiah Washington was fired from the show after reports surfaced that he used a homophobic slur against his co-star, T.R. Knight, during a disagreement with Patrick Dempsey. His attempts to defend himself only worsened the situation. However, he later reconciled with ABC and made a guest appearance in 2014.
Washington publicly apologized for the incident and acknowledged he needs to do some personal reflection. He stated he’s seeking help to address these issues.
I’ve been a huge fan of Isaiah Washington ever since his days on *Grey’s Anatomy*, and I was thrilled to see him continue his career with such strong roles! I really enjoyed his work as Thelonious Jaha on *The 100* – it was so sad when his character was killed off in season five. But I was absolutely blown away by his performance in *P-Valley* on Starz – it’s a truly fantastic show and he’s incredible in it.
Izzie Stevens faced a cancer diagnosis, married Alex Karev, and successfully fought the disease, but she unexpectedly left Seattle during season six. She briefly returned, explaining she no longer felt connected to the city. Later, Alex received divorce papers, and it was revealed Izzie had secretly given birth to their twins. She’s now living on a ranch in Kansas and working as a surgeon specializing in cancer.
Katherine Heigl’s departure from the show started in 2008 when she asked to be removed from Emmy consideration, feeling the storylines weren’t strong enough. By 2010, her character was written off entirely. While Heigl expressed interest in revisiting the role later, creator Shonda Rhimes decided against it, stating in 2015 that she had moved past that storyline.
Katherine Heigl first became well-known for romantic comedies, appearing in several before returning to television. She starred in shows like *State of Affairs*, *Doubt*, and had a recurring role on *Suits*. Most recently, she played a lead role in *Firefly Lane*, which concluded in 2023.
Oh my god, Norman! When he showed up in season four, everyone kept mistaking him for a *doctor*! Can you believe it? He was just an intern, but he looked so put-together. And then… the mistake. Telling that poor patient… it was awful! I was devastated for him. Then he *collapsed*! A stroke! I was so scared. Thankfully, the surgery went okay, they got the clot out, but it totally changed him. After everything, he decided he wanted to switch to psychiatry. It was such a powerful arc, seeing him realize where he truly belonged. He’s just… amazing.
Edward Herrmann was a well-known actor, most famously recognized for playing Richard Gilmore on *Gilmore Girls*. Before he passed away in 2014, he also had roles in shows like *The Good Wife*, *Harry’s Law*, and *American Dad*.
Sydney temporarily replaced Bailey while she was on maternity leave, and her overly cheerful personality often annoyed her colleagues. She briefly dated Derek, but her character was largely absent after the fourth season, with a short return appearance in season 21 in 2024.
Hi, I’m Kali Rocha, and you might recognize me! I recently had a great time playing roles on Disney’s *Liv and Maddie* and *Man with a Plan*. I even popped up in an episode of *Curb Your Enthusiasm* earlier this year, in 2024!
One of the most heartbreaking moments in the series happens at the end of season five. George, after deciding to join the army as a trauma surgeon, was on his way when he bravely saved a woman from being hit by a bus – but ended up getting hit himself. He arrived at the hospital in critical condition, unrecognizable to the staff until he wrote his nickname, “007,” on Meredith’s hand. Despite their best efforts, he tragically died.
Let me tell you, working on a show can be incredibly challenging, and I’ve seen my share of drama. With one particular series, things got really tough behind the scenes – there were some heated moments, including a cast member using inappropriate language, allegedly directed at another. Honestly, I started having creative concerns with the direction of a specific character’s storyline, and it felt frustrating when that character wasn’t even featured much at the start of a season. Ultimately, I decided the best thing for me was to ask to be released from my contract. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it felt like the right one.
Knight revisited Shondaland in 2017 with a role on *The Catch*, and has since appeared in shows like *The Good Wife*, *11.22.63*, and *Genius*. He began voice work for *The Bravest Knight* in 2019, continuing until 2024. From 2020 to 2022, he also starred in the HBO Max series *The Flight Attendant* alongside Kaley Cuoco.
He also returned to Grey’s for one episode to meet Meredith during her COVID-19 coma in season 17.
Erica Hahn and Callie Torres were in a promising relationship, but it ended when Erica discovered Izzie Stevens had disconnected Denny Duquette’s life-support device, hoping to save him. The heart Denny ultimately received came from one of Erica’s patients. When Callie wouldn’t report the incident, Erica broke up with her and resigned from her job at the beginning of season five.
Oh my gosh, Brooke Smith is *everywhere*! After falling in love with her work, I started noticing her in everything! She was amazing in *Bosch*, and then I spotted her in *Bates Motel*! It didn’t stop there – she’s been in *Supergirl*, *The Good Doctor*, even *Chicago Med* and *The Good Fight*! And get this – she was *in* the movie *Bombshell* too! I swear, she’s a television and movie goddess!
Most recently, she had arcs in Ryan Murphy‘s Grotesquerie, The Recruit and The Hunting Party.
Ryan, who previously played the intern, left the show early in season six. Brandon Scott has recently appeared in popular Netflix series like *Dead To Me*, *13 Reasons Why*, *This Is Us*, and *The Good Doctor*.
Megan was known for creating a lot of chaos as an intern on *Grey’s Anatomy*. Her romantic life was particularly complicated: she dated Pierce but had a brief affair with Steve, which led to a near-fatal fight between the two men. She ended up pregnant with Steve’s child and eventually married him. After Derek Shepherd brought her back to the hospital, she disappeared from the show after season six.
Since her time on *Grey’s Anatomy*, Molly Kidder has continued to act, appearing in shows like *Outsourced* (in 2010) and several independent films. More recently, she had a small role as an extra in *Ghosts* in 2025.

Since then, Joe Williamson, the actor who played Pierce, has appeared in shows like *Here and Now* and the 2019 movie *Ford v Ferrari*, alongside Christian Bale and Matt Damon.
Steve completed the office’s love triangle by marrying Megan and having a child with her. He also managed to keep his job through several rounds of layoffs, lasting until the eighth season of the show, after which he simply disappeared from the storyline.
Since leaving *Grey’s Anatomy*, Mark Saul has been on several other TV shows, including *Franklin & Bash*, *Mom*, *The Great Indoors*, *Grace & Frankie*, *Modern Family*, and *I Think You Should Leave*.
Nurse Olivia lost her job when the hospital merged with Mercy West in season six, but she briefly reappeared in season fourteen. She needed medical help for her son, who had swallowed a toy while they were visiting her parents in Seattle. Interestingly, the doctor who treated him was Alex, a former romantic partner, and she used the opportunity to catch up with his fiancée, Jo.
Since leaving *Grey’s Anatomy* in 2009, Sarah Utterback has appeared in several TV shows, including *Reception* and *Mysteries of Laura*. Most recently, in 2024, she had a small part in *9-1-1*.
Graciella, who was last seen on screen during the hospital shooting in season six, is actually Gloria Garayua. She’s been consistently working, recently appearing in a storyline on *How to Get Away with Murder*, and guest starring on shows like *S.W.A.T.*, *The Good Doctor*, *American Housewife*, *Animal Kingdom*, *Snowfall*, *Criminal Minds*, *NCIS: LA*, *Anger Management*, and *Bones*. She also was in the 2019 miniseries *Reckoning* and a 2024 episode of *Tracker* as a character named Rona.
Oh my gosh, Nora! It still breaks my heart. She was the *first* one Gary Clark got to, you know? He just strolled into the hospital, gun blazing, intending to kill Derek, and poor Nora… she didn’t stand a chance. She was shot in the head and… and it was instant. Season six just *destroyed* me. I mean, it happened so quickly, it was just awful. I’ll never forget it.
Nora Zehetner has been in several popular TV shows. After her role on *Grey’s Anatomy* ended, she appeared in a few episodes of *Mad Men*. More recently, she starred in *Designated Survivor* and the 2019 series *The Right Stuff*. In 2025, she played Melissa in *Grosse Point Garden Society*.
Percy tragically died during the filming of season six. Unlike some other deaths, his was a prolonged and harrowing scene – he became trapped with a patient (played by Mandy Moore!) and Bailey, and was shot at point-blank range. Despite Bailey’s desperate attempts to save him, he couldn’t be rescued when the elevators failed during the evacuation.
Robert Baker has consistently worked as an actor, with roles in popular shows like *Riverdale*, *Modern Family*, and *The Originals*. He recently played Otis Graves on *Supergirl*, and in 2025, he appeared in an episode of *St. Denis Medical*.
Dr. Lucy, an OBGYN, unexpectedly got a fantastic job opportunity in Africa, essentially taking it from Alex. This happened, in part, because Alex hadn’t mentioned his own potential interest in working in Africa. Lucy took the position and wasn’t featured on the show after season seven.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following Rachael Taylor’s career for a while now, and she’s really become a recognizable face! Most people know her as Trish Walker, Jessica Jones’ best friend, from the Netflix series *Jessica Jones* and *The Defenders*. She’s continued to build a fantastic resume, and I recently spotted her in an episode of the hit show *Hacks* – definitely worth checking out!
Addison, initially introduced as Derek’s estranged and resentful wife, became a popular character who eventually starred in her own show. She last appeared as a regular on *Grey’s Anatomy* during the musical episode in season seven, where she assisted in saving Callie after a car accident. She also made a guest appearance in a 2012 episode featuring Meredith’s fantasy about her mother, and returned for another storyline in 2023.
She ended Private Practice married to Jake (Benjamin Bratt) with a son, Henry.
Kate Walsh has appeared in a variety of popular shows, including *Fargo*, *Bad Judge*, and *13 Reasons Why*. She also played a role in the hit series *The Umbrella Academy* and currently stars in *Emily in Paris*. More recently, she made a guest appearance on the 2025 episode of *Optics*.
Lexie’s death was one of the most heartbreaking moments on the show, happening during the devastating plane crash. She didn’t survive the crash and died while Mark Sloan, her boyfriend, desperately tried to reach her. Later, in a touching scene during Meredith’s COVID-19 coma, Lexie and Mark appeared together, suggesting they were reunited in the afterlife.
Chyler Leigh first appeared in the comedy series *Taxi Brooklyn*. She then became known for her strong and capable character, Alex Danvers, in *Supergirl*. More recently, since 2023, she’s been playing Kat Landry in the Hallmark series *The Way Home*.
Mark, known as ‘McSteamy,’ also died in the season eight plane crash, though not right away. He managed to return to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries after a few days. The hospital has since been renamed in honor of Mark and Lexie, funded by the settlement money from the lawsuit filed by the other crash survivors. In a touching moment, Mark appeared to Meredith in a dream while she was in a coma, suggesting he and Lexie were reunited in the afterlife.
Eric Dane departed the show to lead the cast of TNT’s *The Last Ship*, which concluded after five seasons in November 2018. He now stars in the HBO series *Euphoria* alongside Zendaya and is scheduled to appear in the highly anticipated third season.
In April 2025, the actor announced he had been diagnosed with ALS, a disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Do you remember Jo’s boyfriend from season nine, the resident at OGYN? They had a big argument when he discovered she’d been keeping secrets, and it escalated into a physical fight. Jason ended up in the hospital with a head injury after falling. Alex talked him out of pressing charges against Jo, and he moved away – we never heard from him again.

Dr. Herman was a tough mentor to Arizona during her fetal surgery training, but Arizona understood her strictness after learning about Nicole’s fatal brain tumor. She reappeared in season 14 to support Arizona’s exit, providing funding for her to establish a women’s health center in New York.
Geena Davis appeared in the 2016 Fox series *The Exorcist* and later returned to *Grey’s Anatomy*. More recently, she’s had roles in Netflix’s *GLOW* and the *She-Ra* reboot. Currently, she primarily works behind the scenes as a producer, most notably executive producing *Mission Unstoppable With Miranda Cosgrove*.
After a difficult recovery from the plane crash, Cristina Yang faced another setback when she didn’t win the Harper Avery award. She realized her current hospital wouldn’t allow her to achieve that honor, and it was time for a change. Luckily, her former love, Preston Burke, offered her a unique opportunity: to lead his state-of-the-art hospital in Zurich, allowing him to retire and focus on his family. Following a final celebration with Meredith, she accepted and left in season 10.
Sandra Oh is a hugely popular TV actress, best known for her role as Eve in the award-winning series *Killing Eve*, for which she received a Golden Globe. Similar to Geena Davis, she also appears in the Netflix show *She-Ra and the Princesses of Power*. In addition, Sandra Oh provides voice work for a character in Robert Kirkman’s animated series *Invincible*.

Derek Shepherd went through a difficult period when he took a job with President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. He wanted his family to join him, but Meredith didn’t want to move, leading to a period of separation. Eventually, Derek realized he needed to be closer to home and found a way to do his job remotely so they could be together again.
After finally finding happiness with Mer in season 11, he was driving back to resolve some unfinished business when he came across a serious car crash. He spent hours helping those injured, but tragically, was then struck by a truck while returning to his own vehicle. The hospital’s medical team wasn’t equipped to handle such severe injuries and didn’t perform a crucial head scan, which ultimately led to his death.
Patrick Dempsey explained he left *Grey’s Anatomy* because the storylines were becoming difficult to maintain and he wanted to prioritize spending time with his family, so he requested to be released from his contract. After leaving the show, he appeared in *Bridget Jones’ Baby*, the miniseries *The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair*, the series *Devils*, and even did commercials playfully referencing his former role as a TV doctor. Currently, he’s starring in *Dexter: Original Sin*.
He shockingly returned to Grey’s for a series of dream sequences in season 17.
Leah Murphy had a difficult journey on the show. She was fired during season 10 because she struggled as a surgeon. Surprisingly, she reappeared in season 13, working alongside Maggie, but left again after only a few episodes.
In 2019, Tessa Ferrer appeared in the Hulu miniseries *Catch-22* alongside George Clooney. More recently, in 2024, she starred in *Grotesquerie*.
Callie moved to New York when her girlfriend, Penny, received a prestigious fellowship there. Initially, Callie had planned to stay in Seattle after a difficult custody loss with Arizona, but Arizona ultimately allowed her to leave with their daughter, Sofia, at the end of season twelve.
Oh my gosh, Sara Ramirez! I was SO sad when they left Grey’s Anatomy, but I totally understood they needed to explore new things – like that role on *Madame Secretary*! And then… Che Diaz on *And Just Like That*? Honestly, Che is EVERYTHING, even if everyone doesn’t get it. I’ve been following Sara’s career ever since, and I was so excited to hear they voiced Amber in *Velma* too! They’re just incredible and I can’t wait to see what they do next!
Penelope’s time at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital was consistently difficult. She started off with a difficult introduction as Callie’s girlfriend, immediately facing blame for Derek’s death and having to work under a frustrated Meredith. Later, when she landed a great job in New York and Callie joined her, it sparked a painful custody fight between Callie and Arizona. They’ve since broken up, which led to Arizona moving to New York as well, but their relationship always seemed destined to fail.
Samantha Sloyan became known for her role as Leigh in *The Haunting of Hill House*, and she’s also appeared in shows like *SEAL Team* and *The Rookie*. In 2025, she returned to medical dramas with a role in *The Pitt*.
During Season 13, Dr. Minnick replaced Richard Webber as the residents’ teacher, but she was widely disliked – Meredith was even suspended because of conflicts with her. Ultimately, she was fired after prioritizing strict hospital rules over a resident’s safety, failing to inform the police that Stephanie was missing during a fire, and nearly causing Stephanie’s death.
Marika Dominczyk later appeared on ABC’s brief series *Whiskey Cavalier*, with her husband, Scott Foley, who is also known for his role on *Grey’s Anatomy*.
After a difficult season 13 – marked by exhaustion, grief over her boyfriend Kyle’s death (played by Wilmer Valderrama), and a near-fatal fire – Stephanie decided she needed a fresh start and set out to explore new possibilities.
