Sarah Michelle Gellar is mourning her father figure.

Following the news of Anthony Head’s passing at age 72 due to pneumonia complications, a former costar from Buffy the Vampire Slayer shared a touching tribute. Head was best known for playing Rupert Giles on the popular show. His daughters, Emily and Daisy Head, confirmed his death.

In a recent Instagram post from June 5th, Jennifer Gellar initially wrote, ‘Tell Giles I figured it out and I’m ok.’ She later admitted that wasn’t true, clarifying, ‘Well I don’t have it figured out and I’m not ok.’

Honestly, I feel incredibly fortunate to have known him. It truly meant the world to me. And I have to give a huge thank you to his daughters, Daisy and Emily – they generously shared their amazing dad not just with me, but with everyone who loved him.

Head—who starred on Buffy from 1997 to 2003—was also remembered by Spike actor James Marsters.

He described Head as someone who brilliantly portrayed a villain while being a genuinely kind, charming, and joyful person. Goldstein expressed how much Head will be missed and sent his love to Head’s family.

He was predeceased by his partner of many years, Sarah Fisher, a dedicated animal welfare advocate who passed away unexpectedly in December at the age of 61.
