Sarah Pidgeon is ready for Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr.to be seen in a new light.
Before FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette debuts on February 12th, the lead actor shared that the show will offer a fresh perspective on the couple’s life together.
I was really struck by what Sarah said in her interview with Will Marfuggi at TopMob News. She explained that Carolyn and John had totally different ways of dealing with the media and public attention. Carolyn really cherished her privacy, and Sarah felt she constantly struggled with finding the right balance – being a Kennedy and John’s wife meant there were so many expectations and demands from the public, and it was a tough act to navigate.
Sarah, who plays Carolyn in the series alongside Paul Anthony Kelly as JFK Jr., said she admired the late publicist for refusing interviews before her and her husband’s death in 1999. However, she also considered the consequences of that choice.
She believed it allowed people to more easily create stories and imagine personalities for her, and consequently, for her and her partner as a couple.
The upcoming film, Love Story, intends to reveal the real connection between John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy.
Oh my gosh, they were just incredible together! Both so strong on their own, but when they were together, it was like…magic. They just had this amazing presence, this gravitas, you know? But the best part? They made you feel like the most important person in the world when they talked to you. They were so generous with their time and attention, it was unbelievable!

He explained that both individuals had a natural ability to make people feel at ease and included, which is why others were so drawn to them.
Sarah particularly enjoyed getting to play Carolyn before she met John F. Kennedy Jr. in the early 1990s.
Sarah reflected on how amazing it was to begin her career with a few days of quiet anonymity, living in a New York City studio apartment while working what felt like her dream job at Calvin Klein. She enjoyed observing herself in that environment—a bit messy, but able to quickly get ready and confidently head to work, starting her journey up the career ladder. It was a surprisingly pleasant way to begin.
Sarah really enjoyed recreating the beautiful 1996 wedding of Carolyn and JFK Jr., saying, “Weddings are always a lot of fun, so photographing one is naturally a great experience.”
The new series, Love Story, will debut on FX and Hulu on February 12th at 9 PM Eastern Time. Stay tuned for more show recommendations!
