Sarah Shahi is looking back at her recent heartbreak.

It’s been over eight months since actress Sarah Shahi and her Sex/Life co-star, Adam Demos, were said to have ended their five-year relationship, and she’s now sharing what it was like to date while in the public spotlight.

Sarah explained to Us Weekly that fans felt a real connection to their relationship, which was lovely to see. However, she added that when a relationship ends, it feels like experiencing the heartbreak both for yourself and for those who were invested in it.

She explained that experiencing personal emotional challenges while also navigating a public situation felt like going through it twice. She met Adam, 40, on the set of a Netflix series in 2021.

Sarah isn’t afraid to make tough choices when she needs to. For instance, she decided to end her 11-year marriage to actor Steve Howey in 2020, a difficult decision made for the sake of herself and their children: 16-year-old William, and 10-year-old twins Violet and Knox.

She explained that she used to be afraid of many things, but eventually realized she was the one making herself miserable. It felt like she was suffocating, and the cause was her own fear and negativity.

I could tell it wasn’t going to be simple, but she just knew it was the best thing for all of us in the long run. It gave me a lot of confidence, honestly.

Sarah recently discussed divorce on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, explaining that it isn’t necessarily negative. She said it doesn’t represent a failure, but rather an acknowledgement of shared growth and positive experiences created together. She views the time spent together as something beautiful.

And the divorce didn’t come out of nowhere, either.

Honestly, things had been falling apart for a while. We’d even tried to get divorced once before, but we ended up staying together. So, when it finally happened, it didn’t feel like a surprise. It felt like we were already way past the point of fixing things, already in a really bad place.

It wasn’t love at first sight with Adam, especially after her divorce from the actor known for Shameless. It took a while for her to develop feelings for him.

It wasn’t love at first sight for us,” Sarah explained. “We really got to know each other over time, and I discovered how much we had in common when it came to what we believed in.

I was really impressed by the way he spoke about his mother and about women in general,” she said. “Over time, I realized he possessed all the qualities I’d ever looked for in a partner, and that’s when our relationship began.
