Sony Interactive Entertainment and Housemarque have revealed a new trailer showcasing gameplay from their upcoming action game, Saros. The trailer highlights the game’s quick pace and cinematic style.
Here is an overview of the game, via Sony Interactive Entertainment:
The Passage Has You
The Passage is an ancient temple in the city of Carcosa and acts as the main hub for the game. Here, you can interact with other crew members, learn more about the game’s world, and discover a strange banyan tree. You can also use resources gathered during your explorations – Lucenite and Halycon – to improve your abilities, taking advantage of the game’s unique upgrade system.
Armor Matrix Upgrades Your Play Style
You can improve your Enforcer Armor using the Primary unit within Echelon IV – a Soltari AI called the Armor Matrix. Spend the resources you’ve gathered to customize your armor to fit how you like to play. Focus on increasing your armor’s durability to withstand more damage, speed up Lucenite collection for faster resource gathering, or boost your shield capacity for extended protection. As you progress through the Armor Matrix, you’ll also unlock powerful features like our Second Chance system.
World Dial Teleportation Allows Fast Travel
Primary lets you instantly travel back to any biome you’ve already discovered, making each playthrough easier to manage. You can still play for long stretches if you want, or quickly jump back to the beginning of your last biome. Plus, when you die, you’ll keep the main and power weapons you’ve collected – so if you found a powerful shotgun or special Carcosan weapon, you’ll start your next run with it.
Carcosan Modifiers Change Your Experience
You can customize the difficulty of Saros using Carcosan modifiers. These come in two forms: Protection modifiers make the game easier by things like reducing damage, speeding up reloads, or giving you more time with your Shield. Trial modifiers, on the other hand, increase the difficulty by making enemies more aggressive, causing your weapon to wear down, or even removing your ability to recover from mistakes.
Okay, so picking what Modifiers to use is totally my call, which is awesome. But I’ve learned it’s super important to balance the Protections and Trials. If they’re way off, the game either gets way too easy or brutally hard, and I want a consistently fun challenge, you know?
Eclipse Escalation
In Saros, an eclipse is causing widespread corruption, affecting weapons, artifacts, the environment, and even people’s minds. Arjun needs to overcome this eclipse to find answers, but each attempt worsens the corruption in Carcosa. The eclipse also alters the characteristics of different areas. For example, in the Blighted Marsh – as shown in the trailer – the water will come alive and burn players when the eclipse begins. Enemies will fire yellow, corrupted projectiles that lower your maximum armor unless you use your power weapon to cleanse the effect.
During the eclipse, the game’s sound will change, featuring distorted music by Sam Slater with echoing guitar layers. Our team working on Saros has built an amazing eclipse experience that we’re excited for you to try.
Saros is due out for PlayStation 5 on April 30.
