Even though Housemarque’s Saros has been delayed by 40 days, we’re still excited about its fast-paced, bullet-filled action and replayable gameplay. The latest trailer actually shows the increasing stress within Arjun Devraj’s team as they grapple with the time-looping situation on Carcosa.
Game director Gregory Louden recently shared in a new video and PlayStation Blog post that the latest trailer highlights the game’s focus on a rich story and diverse characters. He explained, “We really wanted to show off the depth of our storytelling and introduce our amazing cast of characters. They’ve done an incredible job bringing authenticity and realism to each one.”
As the characters face their challenging situation, their differing personalities are bound to cause conflict. According to narrative designer William Shaughnessy, the growing understanding of what’s happening only intensifies the tension and dread, leading to increased friction among the crew, each of whom reacts to the stress in their own way.
Rahul Kohli, who plays the character Arjun and has a significant storyline, has been getting a lot of positive attention. But viewers might also recognize Jane Perry, known for her role in the game Returnal. This time, she plays Sheridan Bouchard, the commander of Echelon Four, and her interactions with Devraj are particularly interesting.
You’ll experience this throughout Saros’s detailed cinematic sequences. Khalil Osaimi, the cinematic artist, remembers one of the first scenes they filmed as a turning point, realizing the power of modern storytelling. While the team at Housemarque isn’t hesitant to use close-up camera work, it does come with its own difficulties.
For the first time, we’re creating cinematic scenes with characters appearing very close to the viewer. We’re intentionally using close-up camera angles. However, animating realistic human faces is extremely challenging – even a small mistake in the facial muscles can completely change an expression, turning happiness into something unintended, like a smirk, explained technical director Martin Contel.
It’s really exciting to see Housemarque go beyond just improving the core gameplay and now offering true rogue-lite progression. We’re looking forward to seeing more updates before Saros comes out on April 30, 2026, for PS5.
