Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang Roasts George Santos

Bowen Yang recently impersonated George Santos again on Saturday Night Live. He’s played the former congressman on the show before.

When news came out that Santos was being released from prison early, viewers of the show started asking if Yang would bring back his impersonation of the politician. A lot of people hoped to see it in that week’s episode, but Yang was actually in Los Angeles and couldn’t film it.

As a huge fan of the old SNL sketches, I was thrilled to see the character of Santos back this week! Bowen Yang reprised the role and showed up during the Weekend Update segment. He strolled onto the set with that classic smugness, immediately announcing he was out of prison and then just unleashed a torrent of completely made-up stories. It was hilarious! He claimed he’d won a marathon that hadn’t even happened yet, and then bragged about stealing jewelry from the Louvre, insisting he was just reclaiming what was rightfully his. Seriously, the audacity was perfect!

Yang started calling people he’d met in prison, including celebrities like Sean “Diddy” Combs. Throughout the calls, Jost sat beside him, pointing out Yang’s exaggerations and struggling to contain his amusement at Yang’s spot-on impersonation of Santos.

I saw that recent Saturday Night Live sketch, and while a lot of people seemed to really enjoy it, there was also a pretty strong negative reaction. I noticed a lot of comments online – especially on X – where people were saying Yang’s impression just didn’t land. Some were pretty harsh, calling it “painfully unfunny” and even criticizing the show’s cast as being too focused on current social issues.

In addition to jokes about George Santos, the Weekend Update segment covered other current events. Che mentioned a recent change to SNAP benefits that he’d previously discussed on Instagram. Jost poked fun at both President Trump’s trip to Japan and the ongoing renovations at the White House.

Saturday Night Live airs new episodes on Saturday at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT on NBC.
