Savannah Guthrie is standing up for her family.
As a lot of you know, my mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing a couple of months ago, and it’s been a really difficult time. I’ve seen some upsetting rumors circulating, and I want to be very clear: my sister, Annie, her husband, Tomasso, and my brother, Camron, had absolutely nothing to do with her disappearance. It’s hurtful to see those kinds of suggestions, and I just want to put that to rest. We’re all focused on finding Mom and bringing her home safely.
It’s just devastating, adding one heartbreak to another,” she shared with Hoda Kotb on Today, March 26th. “I can’t find the words to express how I feel. I don’t understand it, and I don’t think I ever will. My sister and brother-in-law, and my brother, did everything they could to care for and protect my mom.
She’s the heart of our family, our guiding star, and everything to us,” she said. “We cherish her; she’s all we have left.
After Nancy went missing, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office investigated every lead, which included searching Annie’s home on February 7th. Officials told Today that this was a routine step in the investigation.
Savannah pointed out that the doorbell camera footage – showing a man with a black backpack near Nancy’s house, according to the FBI – was key to clearing her family’s name in the public’s perception.
She expressed her gratitude to the investigators and tech companies who located the video, hoping it would put an end to the unfair and hurtful rumors that had begun spreading, especially for those with empathy and kindness.
However, she also said that watching the security footage was deeply disturbing and gave her a sense of what her mother might have gone through.
It’s truly frightening,” Savannah said, shaken. “The thought of that being who she saw is just too much to bear, I can’t even process it.

Throughout this difficult time for their family, Savannah, Annie, and Camron have been supporting each other, particularly while staying in Arizona to help with the investigation.
The journalist explained that their family moved frequently due to disrespectful behavior from others. They recalled one frightening night when they were forced to flee into the desert in the dark, holding hands with their siblings. They quickly got into a waiting car as a crowd approached, and eventually found a safe place where they felt confined and didn’t venture out much.
Despite everything that’s happened, Savannah expressed her gratitude for the police officers working on the case.
She acknowledged the ongoing effort and the hard work everyone has put in. However, she stressed the urgent need for answers, stating they can’t continue without understanding what’s happening.

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to the Pima County police.

Nancy, age 84, was reported missing on February 1st after a friend noticed she hadn’t been at church that morning and contacted her family. After searching her property for about an hour, her children contacted the police around noon to report her disappearance, according to police reports to Today.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained the first steps of the investigation, which involved detectives specializing in homicides, at the victim’s home.
We don’t usually involve the sheriff in situations like this, but the details emerging from the house are deeply troubling,” he said at a press conference on February 2nd. “This case was particularly unusual based on what officers reported finding at the scene.
This isn’t how things usually work,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide detectives are called out when there’s a death, a body to investigate. In this case, we sent them based solely on the information the surveyors provided.”

After looking into what happened, officials said they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators have confirmed they are dealing with a crime scene. He appealed to the public for assistance, noting the community has consistently helped solve difficult cases in the past and he hopes they will do so again.
The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had difficulty walking—she couldn’t walk even a short distance on her own—which led him to suspect she didn’t simply wander off and that something bad might have happened to her.
He stated definitively that she didn’t simply leave on her own, emphasizing that evidence at the location suggests she didn’t leave of her own accord.

The search for Nancy is ongoing, and officials are concerned because she requires daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman under their care is facing serious health issues and needs medication urgently. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.
We’re asking anyone with information about this – if you’ve seen or heard anything, please get in touch. Call 911. We don’t want another tragedy; we need the public’s help.
Although Nancy has faced some health challenges, her thinking and mental skills remain sharp, according to Nanos.
According to Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally sound and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s very alert and capable. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander off, and any physical limitations are simply due to her age.
With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his hope that she will be found safe.
“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how difficult this time is for her family.
In a statement to NBC’s morning show on February 2nd, she expressed her family’s gratitude for all the support, prayers, and kind messages they’ve received. Their main priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.
She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the investigation and asked anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Once Savannah learned her mother, Nancy, had been reported missing, her colleagues on the Today show publicly expressed their support.
Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she is personally close to Nancy and feels affection for her.
She continued, saying they were thinking of Savannah and her family and sending their prayers to everyone affected.
Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.
She felt the show was at its best when it asked viewers to help, encouraging anyone with information for the Pima County Sheriff’s department – even seemingly insignificant details – to come forward.
She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”
Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.
On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the sheriff’s department’s phone number, stating that she was missing.
Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, also responded to the surprising announcement by posting a heartwarming picture of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a simple message on Instagram on February 2nd, Hoda shared a red heart and praying hands emoji.

Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be worried.
As a dedicated follower of the Sheriff’s updates, I was relieved to hear Sheriff Nanos say in his press conference on February 2nd that he doesn’t believe there’s an immediate danger to the public. He did add, though, that the investigation is far from over and there’s still a lot of work to be done, which is understandable.
Savannah hasn’t appeared on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local authorities have been checking in with her to ensure her well-being.
The sheriff confirmed they had spoken with her. Her security team has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.
Investigators now think the woman was taken from her home against her will, likely sometime during the night, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Detectives are investigating the possibility that she was kidnapped.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.
Oh my gosh, she posted about it! It was on Instagram, February 2nd, and it just… got me. She wrote about how she truly believes in prayer, and in all of us coming together – in love, and with hope. She really emphasized believing in goodness, in people, and most importantly, in Him. It’s just… everything I needed to hear. It’s so beautiful and pure, and it really shows who she is!
Savannah continued, expressing gratitude for everyone’s prayers for her mother, Nancy. She described Nancy as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person, and asked for continued prayers, believing they would provide comfort and strength right now.
She added, “we need you.”
To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.
She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, ‘He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.’ She described it as a timeless message for everyone.
Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s house, which is now being treated as a crime scene.
We collected samples and are hoping they contain enough DNA to help us identify what we’re looking for, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.
At a press conference two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos explained what happened leading up to her disappearance.
According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained at a press conference on February 5th.
The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t have a paid subscription. However, the representative assured her they were still working to recover the footage.
The sheriff explained that Nancy’s pacemaker app lost connection to her phone at 2:28 a.m. Later, at 11:56 a.m., her family found she was missing, and they called 911 at 12:03 p.m. to report it to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
About ten minutes after that, he explained that when their patrol teams reach the location, they immediately begin responding with both search-and-rescue and detective units.

On February 4th, Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters they had written, hoping to reach their mother and anyone who might be holding her, asking for her safe return.
In a video posted to Instagram, the family said they’re doing everything possible and are willing to communicate. They emphasized the prevalence of manipulated media and stated they need absolute confirmation that their loved one is alive and in the possession of those they are addressing.
She described her mother as the center of their world, their comfort and stability. Sadly, her mother’s health is very delicate, and she’s in constant pain. She doesn’t have access to the medication she desperately needs, both to stay alive and to ease her suffering.
The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”
As one of the people desperately hoping for news about our mother, I want to say this: if anyone has her, please, please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication at all, and it’s killing us. We just need a way to talk, to understand what’s happening, so we can start figuring out how to move forward. Any contact at all would be a lifeline.
During a press conference on February 5th, FBI agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending fake text messages as part of an attempt to profit from the situation, and authorities are thoroughly investigating a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ. Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.
However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”

On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annie’s Arizona home as a routine part of the investigation, Savannah posted a new video on Instagram suggesting they had received what they asked for.
In a video, she said, while holding hands with Camron and Annie, that they understood the message received. She pleaded for their mother’s return, saying it was the only way they could find peace and celebrate with her.
And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”

Investigators shared surveillance photos of a person of interest in the case on February 10th.
Footage from a security camera on Nancy’s property shows a person wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack walking toward her home. The video then appears to show the individual punching the camera, which police found broken when they arrived.
For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been collaborating with private companies to find any lost, damaged, or hidden images or videos from Nancy Guthrie’s home. This effort included recovering data after recording devices were removed. The recovered video was found as remaining data within those systems, according to a statement shared with TopMob News.
“Working with our partners,” the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Two days after the FBI shared video of the person who went near Nancy’s house, investigators provided a description of the suspect.
According to the FBI’s Phoenix office, the suspect is a man around 5’9” to 5’10” tall with an average build. He was seen in a video wearing a black ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack that holds about 25 liters.
The FBI is now offering a $100,000 reward – up from $50,000 – for information that helps find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

After Nancy had been missing for over two weeks, Pima County Sheriff Nanos released a statement to explain who might be connected to the case.
In a statement on February 16th, authorities confirmed that the entire Guthrie family – including all siblings and their spouses – has been ruled out as suspects in this case. They emphasized the family has been fully cooperative and are themselves considered victims.

Investigators determined the gloves discovered close to Nancy’s house didn’t match the rest of the evidence in the case.
On March 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos explained to KVOA, the local NBC station, that around three weeks prior, they initially thought a pair of gloves found about two miles from the victim’s home belonged to a restaurant. The gloves contained DNA evidence.
Although some people noticed the gloves in the doorbell footage looked similar to those worn by the suspect, Nanos dismissed this as just a guess. They identified the glove’s owner—an employee at a local restaurant—and confirmed the gloves weren’t connected to the crime.
