The Guthrie family is speaking directly to Nancy Guthrie’s possible captors.

Following a video released by Savannah Guthrie and her siblings expressing their willingness to communicate with anyone who might have information about their missing mother, her brother, Camron Guthrie, has stated they haven’t received any responses yet.

In a video posted to Instagram on February 5th, Camron pleaded with whoever has their mother to make contact. “We haven’t received any direct communication,” Camron stated, “and we need to be able to reach you so we can start resolving this.”

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve learned communication is key, and this situation is no different. What’s being conveyed here is a strong desire for connection. Essentially, they’re saying they need to confirm their mother is safe before they’ll engage in a conversation, and they’re actively hoping to hear from the person they’re addressing soon. It’s a plea for reassurance and a request for someone to reach out.

Oh my gosh, it’s just heartbreaking! I saw Savannah, Camron, and their sister Annie Guthrie on TV yesterday, and they were completely devastated, begging for Nancy to come home. It’s been so scary since she was reported missing on February 1st. And, honestly, it’s terrifying to hear about that ransom letter… I saw it reported on TMZ and everywhere else. I just want her back safe!

In a video posted to Instagram, Savannah shared that her family is doing everything possible to address the situation. She emphasized that because photos and videos can be easily altered, they need concrete proof that the person they’re looking for is still alive and in the possession of whoever has her.

Police have since arrested someone who pretended to be Nancy’s kidnapper, seemingly to try and make money from the situation. Despite this, the FBI stressed they are treating the ransom note received by TMZ as a very serious threat.

FBI Special Agent Heith Janke, head of the Phoenix division, explained at a press conference on February 5th that the ransom note contained specific demands, including a deadline and a monetary amount. While the note mentioned an Apple watch and a floodlight as part of the request, Janke declined to provide further details.

The FBI didn’t want to release additional information that could be exploited, so the agent stated they hadn’t been contacted by anyone believed to be holding the individual.

Janke stated that the letter contained no evidence of life and didn’t include any requests, and the Guthrie family is still hoping to hear back from whoever sent it.

Police say 84-year-old Joan Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st.

Police confirmed to Today that Nancy, 84, was reported missing by her family on February 1st. A friend became worried when Nancy didn’t attend church that morning and alerted her family. After searching her property for about an hour, her children contacted authorities and reported her missing around noon.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained the first steps taken in the investigation, which involved detectives specializing in homicides, at the victim’s home.

It’s unusual for the sheriff to be involved in a situation like this, but the details coming from the house are very worrying,” he said at a press conference on February 2nd. “This case was particularly striking based on what officers described and what we discovered at the scene.

“This isn’t how we usually handle things,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide team only investigates when someone has died, when there’s a body. In this case, we sent them out solely based on what the surveyors reported.”

After looking into what happened, officials said they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.

During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators now believe they have confirmed a crime scene after processing the area. He asked for the community’s assistance, noting their history of helping solve difficult cases and expressing hope they will do so again.

The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had difficulty walking—she couldn’t walk even a short distance on her own—which led him to suspect she didn’t disappear voluntarily.

He stated, “We’re certain she didn’t simply leave on her own. Evidence at the location suggests something else happened.”

The search for Nancy is ongoing, and officials are concerned because she requires daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.

During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman is facing serious health issues and urgently needs medication. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.

Although Nancy has faced some health challenges, Dr. Nanos highlighted that her thinking and mental skills remain sharp.

According to Dr. Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally alert and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s very sharp and aware. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander off, and any physical limitations are simply due to her age.

With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his wish for her to come home safely.

“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how difficult this time is for her family.

As a devoted friend, I can share that she recently told NBC’s morning show how grateful her family is for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and messages everyone has sent. Their biggest priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.

She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the investigation and asked anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Once Savannah Guthrie announced that her mother, Nancy, had been reported missing, her colleagues on the Today show immediately expressed their support publicly.

Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she and Nancy are personally close, saying, “We love Nancy.”

She continued, saying they were thinking of Savannah and her family and sending their prayers to everyone affected.

Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time. 

She felt the show was at its strongest when it asked viewers to help, encouraging anyone with information about the case – even seemingly insignificant details – to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s department.

She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”

Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.

On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the sheriff’s department’s phone number, noting that she was missing.

Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, also responded to the surprising news. She shared a touching photo of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a simple message on Instagram on February 2nd, Hoda posted a red heart and praying hands emoji.

Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to worry about their safety.

At a press conference on February 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that he didn’t believe there was an immediate danger, but emphasized that the investigation was ongoing and much work remained.

Savannah hasn’t been on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local authorities have been checking in with her to make sure she’s okay.

The sheriff confirmed they’d spoken with her. Her security team has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.

Investigators now believe the woman was likely taken from her home against her will, potentially while she was sleeping, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Detectives are investigating the possibility that she was kidnapped.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.

In a recent Instagram post on February 2nd, she shared her beliefs, stating, “We find strength in prayer, in coming together with love and hope, and in believing in the goodness of people and humanity. Most importantly, we have faith in God.”

Savannah continued, thanking everyone for keeping her mother, Nancy, in their thoughts and prayers. She described Nancy as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person, and asked for continued prayers, believing they would offer comfort and support right now.

She added, “we need you.”

To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.

She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, ‘He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.’ She felt it was a timeless message for everyone.

Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s house, which is now being treated as a crime scene.

We collected samples and are hoping they contain enough DNA to help us identify what we’re looking for, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.

On February 4th, Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters they had written, hoping to reach their mother and anyone who might be holding her, asking for her safe return.

In a video posted to Instagram, the family said they’re doing everything possible and are willing to communicate. They emphasized the ease with which videos and images can be altered today, and stated they need absolute confirmation that their loved one is still alive and in the possession of whoever has her.

She described her mother as the center of their world and a source of comfort. Sadly, her mother is very ill and in constant pain. She urgently needs medication to manage her condition and improve her quality of life, as she currently has no access to it.

The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”

We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication, and we desperately need to establish a way to communicate so we can begin to resolve this.

During a press conference on February 5th, FBI Special Agent Heith Janke stated that authorities are treating a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ as very serious. He also mentioned the Guthrie family is currently awaiting further contact from the individuals involved.
