Say Goodbye to Bet+ as Paramount Officially Announces Phaseout

The streaming service is launching now. Following the announcement of a merger between HBO Max and Paramount+, the company has revealed its updated strategy.

Paramount+ and BET+ are combining into a single streaming service. BET+, created by Tyler Perry six years ago, was previously owned by Paramount Skydance after they bought Viacom. Now, both services will be offered together under the Paramount+ brand.

Paramount+ is adding content from BET+, which will no longer operate as a separate service. As part of this change, Paramount has also purchased Tyler Perry’s share in BET+. The financial details of the deal haven’t been revealed.

BET+ started in September 2019, shortly before Viacom, BET’s former owner, combined with CBS to become Paramount Global. It costs $5.99 per month with advertisements, or $9.99 without. It’s currently unknown if Paramount+ will adjust the pricing, but the service will now include a dedicated BET section.

Okay, so Paramount just made a big move with BET+. They’ve officially taken full ownership of BET+, buying out Tyler Perry’s stake in the streaming service. The good news is, this isn’t a falling out! Paramount emphasized they’re still very much aligned with Tyler Perry’s vision for expanding BET content, and he’ll continue creating shows and movies for them under a separate deal. It sounds like they’re doubling down on their partnership, just restructuring how things work behind the scenes.

Paramount is speeding up its plans to integrate BET+ into Paramount+. According to a memo from BET president Louis Carr, all BET+ shows and movies will move to Paramount+ by June 2026.

Following Scott Mills’ departure as CEO in December 2025, Carr recently became the head of BET+. In a recent message, Carr explained that this change will allow BET+ to amplify the stories it tells, support its creators, and celebrate Black culture on a larger scale.

The memo emphasized that the new streaming service will offer over 1,000 hours of beloved shows, movies, original content, and culturally significant programs that showcase the diversity of the Black experience. This includes popular titles like THE MS. PAT SHOW, ALL THE QUEEN’S MEN, ZATIMA, AVERAGE JOE, and DIARRA FROM DETROIT.

Carr enthusiastically announced the update, explaining that the network’s well-known Black stories will be easily identifiable, given special attention, and simple to locate within the BET Hub.

BET+ actually started before Paramount+. It began on September 19, 2019, originally featuring content from Tyler Perry, while Paramount+ didn’t officially launch until March 4, 2021.
