Scarface: The World Is Yours Re-Release Now Available on Epic Games Store, Coming to Steam Soon

It was a complete surprise to see the classic game Scarface: The World Is Yours (2006) suddenly appear on the Epic Games Store, and it’s also reportedly heading to Steam soon. This is exciting news for fans of the original game, but a closer look reveals some puzzling details about this re-release.

“Say Hello to My Little Re-Release”

The new version of the game is being published by a company called EC Digital, which is largely unknown. They’ve stated they published the game back in 2006, but this is incorrect.

The game was first published by Vivendi Games, before it became part of Activision Blizzard. EC Digital doesn’t appear to be connected to Vivendi, Sierra, or Radical Entertainment, the team that created the game. They say a technical problem led to the game being released prematurely on the Epic Games Store.

Who Is EC Digital?

Modder Silent, known for creating SilentPatch, discovered his work was included in a recent release without his permission or acknowledgement. He shared on Bluesky that neither he nor anyone else involved was contacted beforehand. Interestingly, the actual owner of the Scarface game license hadn’t even wanted to re-release it in the first place.

That’s right. If Universal, the owner of the Scarface brand, didn’t authorize this, it raises questions about what EC Digital is doing with it. This situation is reminiscent of BlackSite: Area 51, a 2007 game that unexpectedly appeared on Steam years later, uploaded by an unauthorized party.

A “Re-Release” Wrapped in Confusion

The online store, EC Digital, says the updated version of the game includes improvements originally created by fans – a “silent patch” and a “fusion fix.” It also features an optional HD graphics mode that uses AI to upscale the visuals. Players can switch between the improved graphics and the original look, which is a promising feature… assuming this information is accurate.

Their statement reads:

We’re EC Digital, the company behind the game Scarface: The World Is Yours, which came out in 2006. It was released a bit earlier than we intended due to a technical problem.

The Steam page is still under construction with temporary content, but a free high-definition downloadable content pack will be available when the game officially releases.

Too Good (and Too Sketchy) to Be True

It’s difficult to get excited about the reappearance of this fantastic, yet often overlooked, open-world game because of some worrying signs. The company handling the re-release, EC Digital, is unknown, and there are concerns they may have used fan-created modifications without getting permission. Plus, reports suggest the original game’s owners didn’t even want it re-released.

While a return of Tony Montana seems possible, this revival could quickly fall apart, just like his famous estate. Until Universal or Radical Entertainment (the original publisher) confirms the details, it’s best to hold off on pre-ordering or buying anything for now.
