Scarlett Johansson’s The Batman Part II Role & Huge New Character Reveal Revealed By DC Report

For a while, it seemed uncertain whether The Batman Part II would actually happen. Although Warner Bros. approved a sequel shortly after the first movie came out, it took director Matt Reeves and his team a long time to start production. The film faced some delays, and the script needed a lot of work. But earlier this year, things finally fell into place, and Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav announced that filming would begin in spring 2026, with a planned release date in October 2027.

Nearly all the main actors from the previous film are likely to return, including Colin Farrell, who was busy filming his own spin-off series, The Penguin. However, Oz Cobb won’t be the only one vying for power in Gotham City’s criminal world. According to sources, Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, is expected to play a significant role in the next installment.

So far, Scarlett Johansson – famous for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel movies – is the only new actor confirmed for the project. According to Sneider, she won’t be playing a female Harvey Dent, but rather his wife, a character named Gilda Gold.

In the comics, Gold and Dent are a prominent couple in Gotham City, but their relationship suffers due to their professional lives. Feeling trapped, Gold turns to crime, initiating the events of the Batman: The Long Halloween story by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. It’s possible Matt Reeves’ new film will draw from this storyline, and it’s a reasonable assumption. However, as the filming date approaches, Reeves hasn’t been able to incorporate everything he envisioned.

A Big Name Already Passed on a Role in The Batman Part II

Now that a deal with Gold is likely, director Matt Reeves is probably focusing on casting Harvey Dent next. Brad Pitt’s name was mentioned as a possibility, and fans immediately thought he might play the district attorney. However, insider Jeff Sneider says Reeves actually wanted Pitt to play Dent’s difficult father, Christopher. Pitt turned down that role, so now there are two significant parts still to be filled for The Batman Part II.

Simply speculating about the film won’t make much difference, but the fact that Reeves is considering someone as famous as Brad Pitt is significant. He knows Robert Pattinson needs a truly strong co-star, so he’s aiming high. It’s unclear where these discussions will lead, but this renewed interest is great news for a project that has faced several delays.

The Batman Part II hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
