Anna Faris and Regina Hall are once again taking on their roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks. After a break since the 2013 version, these stars will reappear in the upcoming sixth installment of “Scary Movie,” titled “Scary Movie 6.” This new film, produced by Paramount Pictures and Miramax, is written and produced by the Wayans brothers – Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans – along with Rick Alvarez. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. On Friday, Marlon shared on Instagram an old photo of Faris and Hall from the original 2000 film, announcing their return to the series.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about the prospect of reviving Brenda and Cindy. The thought of being reunited with our dear friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon – three gentlemen who we would go to any length for (in Brenda’s case, that lengths might include a little more than life itself) – is simply exhilarating. This is the sentiment shared by Faris, 48, and Hall, 54, in their joint statement to Deadline.
Farris and Hall are the initial cast members confirmed for the upcoming movie, playing recurring roles as friends who often find themselves caught up in suspenseful scenarios that mimic and satirize popular horror movie tropes from films like Scream, The Sixth Sense, The Blair Witch Project, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Paranormal Activity, among others. They first appeared in these roles in the 2000 film Scary Movie, which launched the franchise and earned over $278 million at the box office. The following three films – Scary Movie 2 (2001), Scary Movie 3 (2003), and Scary Movie 4 (2006) – also achieved success and contributed to the development of the horror-comedy genre.
In my humble opinion as a movie enthusiast, it’s worth noting that the hilarious duo of Anna Faris and Charlie Sheen were sadly missing from the fifth installment of “Scary Movie,” which, despite featuring a talented cast including Ashley Tisdale, Simon Rex, Terry Crews, Heather Locklear, Jerry O’Connell, Molly Shannon, and Snoop Dogg, among others, received less enthusiastic reviews both critically and commercially.
Interestingly, during an interview with PEOPLE last summer, Anna Faris hinted at a possible return to her iconic role as Cindy under two intriguing conditions: “Well, it’s all about the money, but mostly I’d love to bring back my character Regina!”
Here’s hoping we might see these beloved characters reunite on the silver screen someday!
The confirmation arrived in October that the sixth installment of the “Scary Movie” film series is being developed. Back then, the Wayans brothers expressed their immense enthusiasm about rejoining the “Scary Movie” project and collaborating once more. This franchise was born by them over two decades ago, and they fondly recall audiences laughing in the theater aisles during earlier films. Their hope is that laughter will echo once again.
Jonathan Glickman, head of Miramax, expressed his excitement by saying, “We’re overjoyed to team up with the Wayans brothers again, who are the masterminds behind the cherished ‘Scary Movie’ series. The moment seems ideal for reviving this series on the big screen, and we’re fortunate to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s distinctive comedic flair bringing it to viewers globally.
Details about the plot and upcoming actors in the film have yet to be revealed. The movie is being developed by the Wayans brothers and Alvarez, with Michael Tiddes serving as director. Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thomas Zadra are involved as executive producers.
Scary Movie 6 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
