If you were eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong, there’s another exciting game to watch! ROUTINE, from Lunar Software, will be released on December 4th. You can see the announcement trailer below.
Originally revealed in 2012, ROUTINE is a sci-fi horror game where you explore a lunar base overrun with deadly robots. It came out the same year as popular titles like Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, and Mass Effect 3—most of which have since gotten follow-up games (let’s not mention Mass Effect: Andromeda though).
Unlike games like Alien: Isolation, this one features permadeath – if you fail, you start over. And to make things even more challenging, the environments and enemy placements change with each playthrough, so simply memorizing routes won’t guarantee success. You’ll always be facing something new.
Lunar Software said in July that the game is nearly complete, though there’s a chance the release date could be pushed back again. They also shared a new look at gameplay, showcasing the hacking features and how important it is to play stealthily.
The game ROUTINE will launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. You can find a fascinating interview with the developers from 2014 to get a glimpse into the game’s original concept and see how it has evolved.
